No Wizards Allowed
Lost Magic is one of those rule sets that has a pretty straightforward description, no magic users allowed. Unlike Up Close and Personal, Going the Distance, and Wands Out, Lost Magic prohibits monsters with two attack types if even just one of those attacks is magic.
This rule set limits the monster types to be either melee or range. A good strategy would be to have reflection ability for those kinds of attack. Ilthain and Mylor Crowling are good options for summoners in this scenario especially if you can accurately predict which type the enemy will heavily rely on.
Alternatively, you can try to strategize around increasing the monsters' chance of evasion since both melee and range attacks can miss their target unlike magic. Having superiority in terms of speed also means that you will do first strike which is always critical in matchups. Another similarity between melee and range is that they both hit armor first. For tactics like these, it's ideal to use summoners like Kelya Frendul and Astral Entity as they both affect armor and evasion rate.
But my featured battle is a little bit different since I'm not using any of the summoners I've mentioned above. It's a 17-mana silver league match with Lost Magic and Equal Opportunity rule sets. You can check the full battle here.
With a 17-mana budget, a Llama-Kron strategy would have been the perfect pick. But since Kron the Undying is not available in this scenario, a similar creature, preferably melee, with self-healing capability is an ideal pick for me.
And my go-to substitute for situations like this is Xenith Monk. He has high speed and healing which is perfect for the Last Stand ability bestowed by Scarred Llama. To further boost his stats, I placed Fungus Flinger in front of him. I also had a Venari Marksrat in the backline with the hope that the enemy monsters with kill it fast since they have the Opportunity ability.
And that is precisely what transpired during the match. Between two Martyr buffs and Last Stand activation, Xenith Monk ended up being a 5-damage 9-speed 17-health tank. The Nectar Queen and Acid Shooter's attacks were absorbed by Xenith Monk's healing. Even with the Thorns bouncing back damage, he was simply too strong at this point. The battle ended at round seven.
