A new set is coming to the land of Praetoria. Based on the released Rebellion previews, it looks like armor would play a vital role in shaping the new gameplay meta, especially in the modern format. Two of the new monster abilities directly affect the armor stats.

Armored Strike

Armored strike reads, "Any unit with this ability gains an additional melee attack using its armor stat." From what I can interpret, this means that armored monsters would have a second attack with their damage based on the armor rating.

While we still don't have a preview on which actual cards have this ability, if Armored Strike becomes available in rule sets or as a summoner ability, monsters like Legionnaire Alvar or Carnage Titan would definitely be a great fit. They would be monstrous tanks that can demolish whoever is on the frontlines.

In terms of the summoners, Kelya Frendul and Lux Vega would be ideal options as they both increase speed and armor. Having a speed advantage is also crucial as you'd want the monster to hit the enemy first before it receives and damage and decrease the armor.

But at the same time, I think Grandmaster Rathe would also work great with Armored Strike. Having Void Armor means the monster can block any type of attack and not have to worry about dying from low health before even hitting the enemy monster. You can both combine offense and defense into one stat, armor, and it can also be easier to replenish with two monsters with repair in the backline compared to heal which is harder to fit more than one in a lineup. Having Void Armor can allow you to focus your entire strategy into a single stat which is more efficient than considering many variables.

Also, post-Untamed, there will be three monsters left with the Protect ability. Arkemis the Bear, Venari Wavesmith and Queen Mycelia have proven their worth even in the current strategy. And I think they would be more valuable in the meta-shift. Let's talk about Corrosive Ward in the next post.
