When the new soulbound summoners were introduced and Gladius cards were allowed into modern play, I focused heavily on Quora Towershead whenever possible. I didn't really pay much attention to any other Gladius cards. But as botting in modern became banned, I noticed new strategies and card combinations that I didn't know about. And one of the cards that piqued my interest was Captain Katie.

STATS AND ABILITIES

All gladiators have a little bit of unfair advantage due to them having the Bloodlust ability with no downside in either stats or mana cost. The only drawback built into them was that they are only useable in guild brawls and now with the soulbound summoners.

But having a gladiator card in play is one thing, getting kills with them in order to pump the bloodlust ability is a whole other strategy that players need to work out on. This is where Captain Katie gains an insane advantage. Her second skill is Snipe. Snipe allows a monster to target backline enemies that are either ranged, magic or with no attack damage. This usually means a monster with very weak defenses and can sometimes be a one-shot kill to Captain Katie. And her speed is a bit slow so partnering her up with a faster snipe monster can ensure that she gets the killing blow.

SHARED BATTLE

It's been a struggle to play in Bronze as the difficulty level spiked significantly as rewards get better and bots are removed from the league. My shared battle is a 33-mana bronze match with Briar Patch rule set. Here's a link to the battle.

Unsurprisingly, both me and my opponent went for the Captain Katie strategy. The opponent selected the battle-tested plan of a Shieldbearer tank supported by Venari Crystalsmith and Scavo Hireling for healing and armor repair.

My strategy focuses on Pelacor Conjurer and Corsair Bosun teamup with a speed debuff from Time Mage hoping that some attacks on Conjurer will be evaded.

Pelacor Conjurer almost died if not for the attack it evaded and the heal it received. The enemy's Shieldbearer was hit hard by Corsair Bosun and was ultimately killed off by Captain Katie, gaining one count of bloodlust buff.

Conjurer's evasion maneuvers did wonders as he was still hanging by a thread at one health while Captain Katie scores another kill by eliminating Crystalsmith.

A few more back and forth action and the when the dust settled, it was a standoff between the two Katies. Mine has one level higher stat boost with support from Crystalsmith and Time Mage. The battle ends in the seventh round.
