Splinterlands vs The Blockchain Gaming World

For the past year or so, I've shut myself from the larger blockchain ecosystem and focused mainly on Hive. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $61,000 and rising. We may very well be at the early stages of a crypto bull run. And with all the hype going on, I decided to take a peek at what has changed in the blockchain gaming world. The one I was familiar with a few years ago was the Binance Smart Chain and Wax blockchain. There were tons of play-to-earn projects that capitalized on the hype. This also became a problem since a lot of those projects eventually ended up being and tainted the reputation of Web 3.0 games in the mainstream gaming community.

And from what I can see, there's not much that has changed after all those years. There are still a lot of play-to-earn games that are shady and untrustworthy. It became a constant cycle of a hot potato process where those who got early cash out at the expense of those who joined the project at the end of its life cycle. But there are also legitimate projects that were established during this period. And it reminded of why I stayed with Splinterlands and the Hive ecosystem. Here are a few reasons why:

Legitimate Company and Employees

A screaming red flag for blockchain projects are the anonymity of their team. Being anonymous and decentralization are the key aspects of blockchain innovation but when you are leading a project with thousand or even millions of dollars on the line, having a legitimate company and fully doxxed members are essential for me. Splinterlands is handled by a registered company as well as fully doxxed employees based in the US.

Transparency and Open Communication

Another big thing that Splinterlands does it the town halls. They do a bi-monthly update on the state of the game as well as any upcoming changes. Community members can also ask questions in the Q&A part of the town wall which the CEO himself answers. Not many blockchain projects do this and most keep a distance a from its community.

Functioning DAO

Having a decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) became a fad with play-to-earn games nowadays. But aside from launching a DAO token, most of it is just lip-service and the company still has full control of the project. Splinterlands on the other hand has a functioning DAO which has swayed the direction of a few significant decisions in the game which made SPS a valuable tool to make your voice heard in the project.

Potential for Future Growth

I am also very optimistic about the future of Splinterlands. They have laid a great foundation with their base gameplay as well as a thriving economy and tokenomics. And all of this was under the bear market. And now that we are nearing a possible crypto bull run, I am excited to see how everything will explode once the project hits mainstream recognition.
