Last Splinterlands Town Hall, it was announced that the team is pushing for the release of Land Phase 1.5 sometime this month of August. And while the actual release date is still uncertain, the definite thing that will happen is that a lot of dark energy crystals will be locked up in these lands. Players who hold lands are incentivized to get their assets online when Phase 1.5 comes. The fewer lands initially utilized, the larger the share of the prize pool.

And two weeks ago, I watched a YouTube video from Tales from the Cryptmancer discussing the available DEC held by players. You can check out his video here. And from the looks of it, what is currently being held, either in accounts, liquidity pools, etc. is not enough even to just utilize a fraction of the total lands. This may trigger the SPS flywheel where the DEC token goes to the peg value of 1,000 DEC per dollar and SPS being burned if it exceeds that.

But there's still another source of DEC available to players in the form of cards. Each card NFT has an equivalent DEC value once the asset is burnt. And while destroying NFTs for their burn value is often not a good decision to make considering it is often more valuable to just sell it, there's one group of cards that can be burned for DEC but is not sellable to the market. That group of cards are the gladiators from the Gladius packs.

A player's collection of gladiators is like the proof of time and effort towards the game. This is because you have to slowly grind your way through guild brawls in order to acquire these cards. But once word gets out that land staking yields an incredible amount of profit, some players may do their best to get their own land assets online as well. And gladiators might also be an option, especially for those that are non-meta or not commonly used in matches. This is especially true for gold foil copies as it will take forever to upgrade its level as gold is very hard to come by, let alone the one you are wanting to get. If you have a legendary gold foil gladiator card, you might get a better benefit burning it that waiting for the next gold foil copy to drop.

But we'll see whether there really will be a mad rush to acquire DEC once Land Phase 1.5 goes live. Now's the time to prepare if you decide to participate in it.
