Splinterlands art contest | Usut

Hi. This is my first entry to Splinterlands contest.
I'd like to take some of your time and quickly go through the process of creating my entry.
It took me a while to choose and decide which card to go with, but finally I settled on Usut. I like dragons :) ( my previous dragon model )

Reference

When I was going through Splinterlands cards It made me wonder how some of the characters could look like in motion. I thought it would be an interesting experiment to animate an attack move for a card.
It is also not usual for me to create in a cartoon style so it was also a bit of a nice challenge to try.

I started by 3D modelling the dragon in Blender.
Below you can find a few stages the 3D model went through.

After finishing the 3D modelling part I moved to creating a cartoon shader for the dragon.

Next stage was rigging and animating. Making the fire/laser beam was especially fun thing to do. It broke for me like 3 times, but in the end I am pretty happy with the result.

Last stage of the project was to create grease pencil outlines for the animation and render the whole thing.
I really enjoyed the whole process, especially because I had a chance to use some tools in Blender that I usually don't use. It was a nice learning experience and I hope you like the end result.

And here you can check the final animation.

Would you want card animations implemented in Splinterlands? Or do you think that Splinterland's fast game-play style would make it impossible to fit the card animations in?
I am curious of your opinion.

Sorry for a double post. I uploaded my video to 3Speak and I am not sure if that counts as a normal HIVE post or not.

Esta genial que compartas tu proceso y me parece totalmente acertado que cuentes que se te rompió tres veces jajaja eso demuestra que a pesar de saber mucho a veces toca intentarlo varias veces para lograr lo que uno quiere.

Yeah, some of my 'techniques' are probably not very elegant. But it works! It's like a car, but when you lift the hood, you find that instead of an engine, it's powered by a bunch of hamsters in hamster wheels :)

As a fellow 3d artist ild say that is so awesome, ild love to put an epic background behind that epic character

Thanks man. It's great to find more Blender people on HIVE. Maybe we could do some kind of collaboration together some day. Thank you for the re-blog :)

you are welcome, it is awesome to find more blender users on hive, definitely lets do a collab, maybe like an artists connect challenge or something that'll be great.

Maybe something like this

? Probably a lot simpler, because there may not be that many 3D artists on hive yet. But something similar that we could each make a part of and then add a nice music to make it interesting. Just an idea.

yeeeeeeah now we are talking, isn't this the 3d art challenge from this YouTube artist, uuuhhm what his name...pwnisher, he was working at corridor crew YouTube channel, hmmmm
or mabe we can start a 3d art community of some sort, i guess,
or we could do weekly challenges like the splinter own.

I am not sure who started that collaboration, but I like the idea. We could take over the C/Blender community in the beginning and cross-post to art communities to get some attention and see If there is anyone willing to join. We could have a base blender file with a simple animation everyone can download and 'dress up'. Maybe something different than a walk-cycle so we're not just copying that youtube videos idea completely. Probably best to assume that at least in the beginning there wont be a lot of participants so probably best to keep it short and simple.

Thanks man! The last month was a bit crazy and I had no time to post, but I plan to reorganize and get back to it soon.
