Maximum abilities we use at high level, so there is no need to bother about that.. It is just beginning for you, so you can keep on keen eyes over the battle so that you can get appropriate idea which cards are useful in bronze or silver league.
Instead of buying bulk card, first Focus to purchase Monsters according to your summoner level..eg your OBSIDIAN is level 3 then upgrade your common card level 4. Not every card but whom you use frequently. Rare 3, Epic and Legendary 2 level. As time will passes you will able to justify to choose appropriate card..
PS.. This is just a humble suggestion my dear friend...
