Into the Rift

avatar

The moment has arrived and the Rift Watchers Presale is now live. And, I am hoping that I am able to grab some in this round, because essentially, I want the legendary drops. I am not sure if they are going to be as good as the blight, but still, I am sure they will be okay.

Worth the money?

Probably not.

But it's just paper.

image.png

Not even -

it is 0s and 1s

image.png

This will be my last large purchase for Splinterlands.

I always say this.

But, perhaps I mean it this time. After all, the money to buy has to come from somewhere and I don't have an endless supply. At some point, I am going to have to start earning on this too, since it is meant to be an investment - not just entertainment. I am hoping that LAND will be able to put at least some of my cards into a cycle of better earning potential, but I am not sure if it is going to ever cover the outlay. As someone who was by no means early in, I am well in the red and will likely be for some time to come.

Am I crazy?

Are we crazy?

Yes.

But, crazy is what crazy does and if this is what crazy looks like, at least we are crazy in a way that people have the chance to improve their lives, by being part of a new industry yet to take hold globally. If it takes hold.

So, what was I able to grab?

image.png

And I had these within the first minute of go live.

image.png

image.png

After 4 mins:

image.png

For those counting, that is 2.8 million worth of SPS spent, plus 563,000 vouchers - in 4 minutes. The presale 500K went in under two minutes.

And fourteen minutes later:

image.png

That is another node license. I have four now - but 1000 have sold today. That is driven by the slightly higher value of SPS and the extra vouchers floating around. I hadn't enough myself, so had to loan some from a friend. If I remember correctly, 80% of that SPS is burned - so that is about 16M SPS that will be taken out of the supply. - Around 2% of the total.

Success?

Well, for Splinterlands at least and remember, that even though they put all the work in to create the release, the SPS will go into the DAO fund, which will then be directed by the staked Splinterlands community in the future, so what happens to it from here is going to be interesting too, as it could return more value back into the community in various ways or, be burned.

I am pretty excited

And relieved.

I know that a lot of people didn't think this would go so fast, but those who really wanted the cards, are also those who have been collecting SPS the last year through the drop on their very generous holdings, collecting vouchers too, so it is a no brainer that they are going to spend on these. Getting in from outside is expensive - from inside, far less so. But of course, there is an opportunity cost involved, though for many, the opportunity far outweighs the cost, especially for those early in users who with relatively minimal investment, have made a fortune.

Am I bitter?

No! It is fucking awesome that people are actually churning life-changing amounts of value through Splinterlands and all on Hive - it is brilliant!

How come there is no mainstream press on this shit??

But, I don't mind it being a little fringe for now either - it gives me time to make some inroads and invest, before they do start to flock. I just hope that the Splinterlands Team don't spread their focus too wide into other games so that they break their attention on the core. Spreading too thin can be a disaster for a company, and that is what they are - a company.

How many companies dilute their ownership and power to their users?

Not too many.

The model of business is changing and has been for sometime with the way SaaS has taken over in many of the consumer-facing products, as well as the backend business products. While it is a rent model, it s one that requires constant contentment from the audience, otherwise they will abandon ship - they will churn.

The model that Splinterlands uses is a bit different though, as it encourages ownership of the SaaS model, so usage comes with return, making it far less likely that user churn happens at the investor level. I wonder what the player churn is on Splinterlands - I wonder how many significant investors have sold everything and taken off? It would be interesting to see the numbers - but I suspect, the percentage is relatively low.

But now - it is time for me to step away - after spending the whole day in anticipation of this moment and, the adrenaline of getting in at the change of the splash page and purchasing all the packs I will get from the Rift Watcher set.

Is 2400 enough?

I hope so.

Time to relax.

I thimk we don't need it. It would be good to stand on our own feet for a while, let's see then.

It will hopefully happen, but I don't see it ever being more than a large fringe - but a fringe with a very good backstory and history :)

Although it may not be Splinterlands, I understand passion completely. I have such a drive for three day household estate sales, where you can buy upscale gently used items for a fraction of the cost. It is a different game and form of investing as a prepper. You change your buying habits, by opting out of buying at Walmart, Target, Home Depot etc. and supporting local estate sale companies and families. It is a treasure hunt and educational seeing the vintage merchandise. Each sale has a theme and often the houses themselves offer a creative architecture to learn from. Passion and the thrill of the hunt comes in many ways.

It sounds like a lot of fun!

I wish they did that here, as it would be brilliant to be able to get some of that old furniture, lamps and things for the house :)

Good pick up mate; hope you get the promo goldie.
I woke up 50 minutes after the release, was on the fence - still didn't know if I'd pick up 50 packs or not. Glad the decision was made for me ;)

OH, and I should get a guaranteed gold or two! :)
I think it was with every 1000.

That's awesome! I hope it's a really amazing card for you.
I ended up putting some attention onto getting a PLOT of land - for the last week it had my full attention. I ended up picking up one this morning, after I realised that I had missed being in the first 500k packs. I'll be honest, I'd have loved the promo card, but I feel like this PLOT might just have been the better pick up for my situation longer term. I'd like to get another 2 or 3 in the coming weeks, but will see how she goes. I also have a shopping list of Chaos cards to pick up - but, never enough of the old coin to satisfy my urge to buy more cards ;)

(Although, I'm close. I need to buy a couple more gold foil obsidians to max her out for gold league, that'll let me upgrade the goblin psychic to get SILENCE. That's the goal anyways, will probably do it next week).

I think have a plot or two is a good call. You can also pick up RW in the "general" sale, though not sure how fast it will sell out overall. They have been "on the cards" for a while and hopefully soon, the cards will be on them. They should add a lot of value to the game.

Are you getting gold Summoners? Nice!

They will likely be valuable on land too :)

Funny thing, I always forget to use silence - and it costs me often! Good call :)

Yea, as it turns out, the majority of my deck is Gold Foil. I got suckered into Fray 16 (Silver league, Gold Foil) and I went on a transform-my-deck from no golds to all golds. Takes a bit of fun out the brawl, I miss having 9 or 10 battles to line up! But, from a guild point of view, it makes sense for me to lose some fun, and be able to compete in the spot. (I'd prefer Fray 15 - but can't always get what you want, right?)

I'm not going to worry about the general sale, will just pick and choose a couple of choice cards I need and take the gamble out of the process. Feels like might be cheaper that way, but I dunno, will probably have a moment when I just buy a couple and then open up shit and then regret it ;)

This is truly an astounding investment model.
They play and have fun, but make money. Breakthrough investing.
How people used to think that the game was a mere game that wasted time and wasted.
Now? The paradigm has completely shifted.

I was astonished, as I recall in the 4 months since I joined #HiveCommunity, I followed almost all of your posts, Mr @tarazkp. This is the first time you're playing around. Not really playing. Because you keep making it a serious discussion as a form of investment inspiration.

I think that more and larger businesses are going to shift to a similar model as Splinterlands, slowly cutting out the middleman of the stock exchanges - which are businesses themselves.

This is the first time you're playing around.

I play often - though, it isn't always obvious ;)

I was definitely exciting to hear the community on the Discord as it sold out! It hurt so much but also bought 2.4k. They estimate that it will take 1.5k to complete a max deck so I took that option as the rarity of the set may make a Golf Foil Collection too expensive for my taste. Now to figure out how to accumulate more SPS for whatever is next!

It made a big dent in the holdings for sure!!

Not sure who got the 500,000th pack - will be interesting to see. Also, how does it work if it is in the middle of a buy? :D

1500 for a max - I wonder if that will hold true.

You would probably make a bit if you learn how to flip the cards but I suspect you, like me, may possibly be a terrible hoarder XD

I take my hat of to you for jumping in like that, will you put in another 22K HIVE tokens for the tower defense game?

No, I don't think I will on that. Might be a bad move, but I am already spread too thin financially and with my attention. I can only get my head around so much.

Rift Watchers packs are too expensive for me. I might buy some individual cards later...

A lot of the cards will likely drop in price, so you can learn and target what you are after with more precision :)

Nice getting in in time. Wasn't aware they would sell out so fast. Was looking at the Genesis soccer white paper and airdrop is starting in October for GLX tokens so I'm gonna start hoarding the old SPS from here on out

I was really worried I would miss out. Still took the shot, pasted it into an empty post on peakd, then clicked buy :)
