Pizza Guild Brawl Report 24 - No News is Good News?

So it's been a couple of weeks since I last wrote a Brawl Report and for that I'm sorry. It's been a very busy summer for me and my family and I just haven't had the time to sit down and really analyze my battles the way I should be.

But fear not, I'm here once again to deliver another Pizza Guild Brawl Report.

Now if you've been following along, I usually like to start my reports with some new Splinterlands news and recent goings on, and for this week I was really hoping to talk about Land 1.5, but it looks like that's gonna have to wait just a little bit longer. So instead we're gonna just jump right into my fights.

Let's get to those brawls...

Battle #1 - Loss
Ruleset - What Doesn't Kill You / Even Stevens / Taking Sides

This was a great play by my opponent. They they went heavy on Speed and didn't look back. Adding Sthispa as the summoner only added to my troubles, making it so my Magic attacks could miss like all others. Then knowing Enraged was in play, you know that as soon as one of your monsters takes damage, their speed is getting an additional boost. It was gonna take a lot of RNG luck on my part, and that just didn't happened. I was slowly picked apart in 6 Rounds.

Battle #2 - Win
Ruleset - Counterspell / Healed Out / Super Sneak

#2.png

Although Mylor doesn't get as much play as he used to, this was a perfect time to break him out. With Counterspell in play, my opponent wasn't likely going to use any magic. He ends up using Grund for the Double Strike/Super Sneak and hoping the Marksrat would die and provide the Martyr boost followed by Scarred Llama's Last Stand Mega boost. Unfortuntely, Thorns rips Grund to shreds, and Marksrat is left all alone to accept a now useless Last Stand boost. This was all over in a very quick 2 Rounds.

Battle #3 - Win
Ruleset - Lost Magic / Heavy Hitters / Stampede

It's hard to go into a fight with only 1 attacker. You have to really beef up the defense and hope your opponent's defense is weak, so you can eliminate them quickly. That was not the case for my opponent here. Their Imperial Knight is the only one able to attack and is supported by Scavo Hireling's Shield Repair. The thought was probably that I would have used more Melee attackers, thus Disintegrator would keep my attacks low. I however have a couple of Ranged monsters who are boosted by General Sloan and are able to out pace their Shield Repair. My Battering Ram and Celestial Harpy, both with Opportunity also pay close attention to Scavo Hireling, focusing their attacks there. This is over in 3 Rounds.

Battle #4 - Win
Ruleset - Lost Legendaries / Fog of War / Armored Up

#4.png

While my opponent plays with and misses Chaos Agent a couple of times up front, I get a little bit of a head start on whittling down their Deimonshark a little bit. By the time both Diemonsharks are going head-to-head, theirs is already at half armor and health as compared to mine. Now my opponent utilizes 2 Repair Armor users very effectively; however, Coastal Sentry with Double Strike AND Trample, gets 3 hits in almost every round and completely neutralizes all that extra armor. This finally gets wrapped up in 6 Rounds.

Battle #5 - Loss
Ruleset - Tis But Scratches / Keep Your Distance / Ferocity

#5.png

My Magic heavy death squad is no match here. Almo Cambio with Phase is hard enough, but Speed boosted by Supply Runner along with Void makes my attacks virtually ineffective when they do hit. And although Djinn Muirat is usually solid here against magic with Void Shield, Immortalis takes that away with Shatter. I'm put out of my misery here in Round 4

Battle #6 - Loss
Ruleset - Silenced Summoner / Keep Your Distance / Heavy Hitters

#6.png

A couple things really decided this match here. First, they had more attackers that slowly picked me off one by one. Second, my attacks in comparison are split between Mycellic Slipspawn and Regal Peryton. Third, a couple of key misses on Pertyon hurt once I was focusing on it 100%. Fourth, their ability to heal after I missed made my job a little more difficult and eventually I just ran out of attackers. It was all over by Round 5.

I haven't been able to write up a report in a couple of weeks, but let me tell you, I've been having a rough go at it. So to finish .500 with a 3-3 record is a good thing for me. This higher tier has brought in tougher competition who have (or are renting) cards that I'm not used to playing against. It's just a matter of learning what to expect and how to appropriately counter what I'm seeing.
