Splinterlands Dilemma's | Let's discuss it all

splinterlands dilemma's.png

This post was written after going back and forward thinking what the right approach would be to build my collection in Splinterlands, I can't seem to figure it out (yet) so writing the dilemma's down may bring some insights, or maybe someone has some valuable tips for me as well. Thank you in advance for reading and thinking along with me, I appreciate it a lot!

The announcement about the voucher system

Came a few days ago, and afterwards, I wrote this post about it. I decided to check the airdrop rewards by the day, and see if I felt my decision to trade in DEC for SPS was the right thing to do.

SPS went up, but so did DEC

I soon wondered if I'd been better off with the DEC I sold vs the SPS stake I had now, but then I reminded myself of the fact that I wanted to have a big enough stake of SPS and assumed that SPS would be high in demand soon, so therefore the best option to not be chasing a shooting star soon.

image.pngimage.png

I do believe (seeing the rewards now) that I should now focus on buying more DEC as I have the feeling (but not 100% sure) that having the DEC earns higher SPS when looking at the value.

What will I do with the SPS that will be aidropped?

On one hand, I feel I should start building a liquid bag now to pay for the packs once they are in the pre-sale, besides the SPS that I've been staking constantly so far. I hope that I won't need any powerdown of SPS to pay for my packs, therefore it's time to make sure I have the liquids ready to purchase the packs. Let's start with the first 100 and take it from there.

Not enough vouchers for 100 packs

And then there's still the issue of being quite sure that I will never get enough vouchers airdropped to buy 100 (or preferably) 200 packs. To do so I would have to stake an X times SPS, which I won't/can't make happen unless a miracle appears. So here I am, having enough funds to buy several rounds of packs, which I was so looking forward to, but the voucher system is going to be the bottleneck for me to buy as many as I'd planned for a while now.

Buying vouchers on the market

Of course, there's the option to buy them on the market, but I see people talking about prices that may be double the pack price, sorry but if that's going to happen, it's already game over for me before it started. I feel quite shit to be honest. I just can't see how I can manage to get my foot in the door and make sure I have enough vouchers to build my collection.

Silver league

My goal was to be able to get to silver league to have some more card abilities unlocked, earn more daily rewards, and of course have a better chance of earning a decent card compared to the 1 chest in bronze I open each day. I was confident that I could make that happen with Chaos Legion, and didn't mind to struggle along until then.

The voucher announcement was a hard one to swallow, but I decided to not think to negative and try to earn as many vouchers as possible, buy 2000 SPS and stake them, doing the best I could at that moment to up my chances of getting as much vouchers as possible.

And then this happened:

Today @splinterlands announced these changes in the game economics:

Reading the announcement above, I thought oh that will be fun with little to no collection power, in bronze, often struggeling to win the 5 battles. But it got worse:

This is not helping :( I mean, the thing that got me excited was the chance of receiving a nice dec chest every once in a while. Of course the nice cards and them turning gold if I'm lucky was the other thing that got me excited, thankfully, that option is still there, but such a low percentage. The credits don't cheer me up at all, to be honest.

Silver league still far away

Looking at this:

image.png

I know to be get into silver 3, I need 15k Collection power, and wonder how I'm going to get there without being able to buy the packs to do so. Buying cards off the market for these prices, it's just not an option, I rather put that money in having a chance of pulling the good stuff. I know it's a chance, but still, it seems like a better option than buying them.

Considering renting cards

For a season to see if this is the way to go for me until CL can be opened. But then I read about the fact that your collection power needs to be there for at least 24 hours before it starts counting (Correct me if I misunderstood), so I wonder if I rent cards for a season, doing my best, reaching silver 3, feeling like I managed to achieve a higher league and therefore more rewards. What if the card owner breaks the lease within the last 2 days of the season? I possibily can't even get back into silver after paying the rent all season for a better deck.

image.png

I remember reading about card owners breaking leases at the end of the season as the prices went up a lot, so it was worth breaking them, and renting them out again. Seems like that's a risk when renting cards.

I have to admit, that I haven't checked (yet) how much I'd pay for a dec that would get me into silver 3 if I'd rent them. So I don't know how much of a risk it actually is, I will look into that next.

Conclusion

After the last announcement, I have even more questions on how to proceed. Every time I think I have a game plan ready, I get set back by changes. Not walking away yet though, still hoping to figure it all out!

If you made it through the end, kudos for you! If you have any tips that could help me make the right decision, even more kudos for you!

Hey Mate, are you putting your DEC in Liquidity Pools on Cub Finance or Tribal Dex? That way you get extra rewards on your holdings and of course the SPS Airdrop. I really like the DEC-BUSD pool on Cub Finance. I keep buying DEC and when it reaches $100 in price, I push them into the pool. 🚀

thanks for the reminder of that option, but decided to take another route today. as dec was high in value, I bought cards, unlocked bronze 1 with collection power, so getting closer to silver now. lets hope I can unlock that with CL :)

That's a smart choice! I just started learning more about the game myself, I mostly just do something while playing (lol) sometimes it works and then I continue that path haha

Mate: renting gold foil cards is the ticket. Figure out what your favorite card groups and strategies are, then rent level 2 or gold foil versions. You'll win more matches and also get the deck power you need for silver. Costs me less than 50 to 100 Dec per day total
