My First Week In Splinterlands: 3 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started

I started playing Splinterlands about a week ago, and so far it's been a wild and wonderful ride. I would like to share three things I learned this week that I wish I knew before I started.

1. You can go far renting cards for pennies.
On my first account @thoth442, I've invested about $100USD buying cards so far. This may or may not turn out to be a good investment.

On my second account @thoth433Screen Shot 20220604 at 11.34.18 AM.png I only got the spell book and the 3,000 Credits that came with it. I've spent about 90 credits (9 cents) renting cards and am now comfortably in Bronze 1 and earned about 14 DEC.

This point was further exemplified on Community Manager Bulldog's stream yesterday.Screen Shot 20220604 at 10.44.32 AM.png

In summary, if I could turn back time I would have rented for my first few seasons and better learned the game before buying cards.

2. Energy Capture Rate (ECR) Affects Everything: This is not a game to grind.

I was so hooked on Splinterlands when I started, I played for hours on end and nuked my Energy Cature Rate below 20%. This was a mistake. I've learned that its betteer to:

  • Keep ECR about 75%.
  • It takes 4 days for an accounnt to fully recharge ECR
  • If you want to play Splinterlands aggresively, you will want at least 3 accounts to play in rotation.

3. To the Moon! Advancing in rating and power leads to better rewards.
The third big lesson I learned this week is that you want to play at as high a level as you can consistantly win at.

Advancing improves chest quality for the following season and allows you to win more chests this season.

Winning is important! Take time to research and put together winning card combinations. Get on win streaks, even if it means switching to a non-focus splinter. Don't force yourself to play less than ideal splinters just to get your focus.

In conclusion, I learned to take advantage of cheap card rentals, be mindful of my ECR, and try to compete and win at the highest level possible. I hope this article may be helpful to others starting out in Splinterlands.

P.S. I am definitely a newb here and could be wrong on some or all of the above content. Please let me know in the comments.
