How to ACTUALLY get out of Bronze the “hard way” [for players on a budget]

Caveat:
...
I would like to start by saying that this method is "cost-effective" but certainly not the most straightforward. It is simply what I did myself. This is definitely not a “Rent Mylor and get out of Bronze in a day” kind of thing. I concede that might not be for everyone.

If you've been struggling in Bronze for a while, this is a method I would suggest. It's actually something I applied a few weeks ago to get out of Bronze once and for all.

I started the game back in October/November 2021 (87 days ago)

At the time, the starter deck was composed of monsters from the Beta & Untamed editions. After a while, I slowly got used to them. Everything changed when those starters shifted towards the Untamed & Chaos editions in the middle of a season. I didn’t feel lost at first thanks to the double rulesets in Silver that allow for more possibilities and combinations.

However, when I was sent back to Bronze at the end of the season (EOS), this is when the struggle started. I encountered a fierce competition. Those players had already been tweaking with their strategies for each mana cap about half a season by then. After a few sessions, I knew I was going nowhere.

Back to school - The old pen & paper

I decided to take a step back by spending half of a season learning the new metas (most effective tactics available). I told myself that I would do this once and for all to help me get familiar with the new synergies and new carry cards.

I purposefully delegated all my Collection Power (CP), even though I hadn't had much, in order to get back to the Novice league and start from there. The reason for this was that by doing so, I would play only within the Standard Ruleset.

The Standard Ruleset

That was certainly not the most exciting thing I went through but in many ways the best method for gathering notes about the metas in each mana cap from 12 to 99.

Indeed, most players in Novice and Bronze play with the starter deck only, therefore, the competition is intense. It’s often more about finding the right metas for each mana cap than finding the best strategies available.

The developers of the game seem aware of this situation. In one of their latest Town Hall (AMA), they hinted at making some changes to the starter deck in the future. But for now, we have to deal with how it is.

Your opponents are your best mentors

For each mana cap, I systematically used the squad that beat me previously until I found out one that had a high win rate. Then, I would slightly make some tweaks to get the advantage.

Rent a few low mana neutral monsters - Be selective
Examples:

  • Creeping Ooze
  • Furious Chicken

They fit in almost any situation and can make a major difference to lead you to a different outcome. They will provide you with the slight edge you need to outperform your opposition.

In summary

Shortcomings of this method:

  • not the most straightforward
  • time-consuming
  • your win rate will suffer in consequence
  • your Energy Capture Rate (ECR) will suffer in consequence as well

Benefits of this method:

  • cost-effective
  • you’ll most probably only need to do it once
  • you'll get a better grasp of the synergies and carry cards for each splinter

I hope this post has been helpful in some ways.
See you next time!

Thomas
