A Renewed Focus on Brawls

Since the Modern Format has been launched a month or so ago, @cryptomancer, the lead developer of this massive change in the game got the opportunity to work on Brawls, a somewhat less intensive project, for the next few weeks. On top of assigning one of their top developers to this task, the update in the reward system, which incorporates Merits in Loot Chests is a sign that the Guild experience will soon be more impactful for players overall. Last but not least, the upcoming SPS rewards for Brawls will more than ever make players pay closer attention to Guilds.

Quora, the equivalent of Kron in Brawls

If you’ve been brawling for a while, you’ve certainly encountered Quora in one of your battles. She definitely made a name for herself as one of the strongest Gladiators in the current set! Funny enough, her backstory from the lore unveiled that she joined the Gladiators Arena to help fulfill her parents’ dream, which was to make Towershead a respected and honorable family name. She sure did succeed in her endeavor! At base-level, she offers incredible stats: 2 Melee Attacks, 2 Magic Attacks, 11 HP, and a Speed of 3.

Kron The Undying

But most importantly, she comes with Bloodlust and Heal. The latter is what makes her Kron-like in many ways, especially when combined with the Llama as the summoner. This card is soul-bound, which means that her value will mainly result from her helping win Brawls battles, and therefore, more SPS! After opening 14 Gladius Cases, I was lucky enough to pull Quora Towershead as my 70th Gladiator Card. Her intrinsic value (burn value) is only about 200 DEC, but the value she brings to the field is much more consequent!

It’s quite amazing that 60 copies, 57 Regular and 3 Gold Foils, of this incredible card have already been burned since its release. If this card wasn’t soul-bound, her current market value could arguably be close to the $100 mark. Unlike other cards, however, Gladiators Cards are inflationary, which makes them less scarce over time. In fact, there are already more Quora in circulation (4392) than Kron (2630). Besides her small burn value, which doesn’t mean much, you certainly want her by your side while fighting in Brawls.

The Llama / Quora Combo

Quora Battle Round 1.jpg

The following battle was shared by a Guildmate (@artinek) about a week ago. He got incredibly unlucky in that confrontation, but this battle also shows how insanely powerful Quora Towershead can be. She basically wiped out an entire team costing about 50 Mana on her own!

All cards playable may be used.

By Round 4, Quora was already the only unit left in the opposition, while Artinek could still count on his entire squad. The Last Stand provided Quora with 3 Melee Attacks, 3 Magic Attacks, 5 Speed, and… 21 HP! Nevertheless, she still had to face heavy hitters in the names of Jared Scar and Uriel The Purifier.

In fact, Bloodust combined with Enrage got Jared Scar to an astonishing 12 Melee attacks when he faced Quora. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance to attack as Quora’s Magic hit got priority over Jared’ Melee. The combination of her Melee/Magic attacks is actually very comparable to a Double Strike!

After that, Uriel managed to miss its huge 15 Melee attack four times in a row between Round 6 and 12! Once Uriel was out of the way, Quora’s bloodlust ability quickly wiped out the rest of the team. While she was the only one left on her team, she still somehow managed to steal the win on her own!

Of course, the RNG was definitely not on Artinek’s side. Yet, this battle still shows how annoying and how difficult it can be for opponents to deal with the Llama/Quora combo in Brawls.

In a nutshell

Even though Quora Towershead is already extremely effective at base-level, there is more. Quora Towershead once at Level 3, Silver eligible, gains the Immunity ability, which is an unbelievable addition to an already impressive arsenal of abilities: Bloodlust, Heal, and a kind of Double Strike. I am already thrilled to own one BCX of this amazing Gladiator Card, but I can’t wait to level it up. In the meantime, I’ll see how I perform with Quora in the next few brawls!

See you all very soon!
