Why I would highly encourage NEW PLAYERS to think only in terms of DEC (and not $) during their first few months of playing SPLINTERLANDS

Welcome to a New World...

Coming into Splinterlands is comparable to discovering a foreign country with its own culture, its own language, and most importantly, its own currency.
For the last few years, I have been working and living in different countries, and therefore, I had to juggle with different currencies in mind. It can be at first disturbing but, over time we get used to it.
By living in this new environment, we learn to assess its currency via different baseline commodities. For example, as a teenager I would measure how much money I had by calculating the number of manga I could buy in the country I lived in (yes, I know… haha).
... with New Opportunities!

In Splinterlands, the dollar value of a card is closely tight to the fluctuation of its in-game currency, DEC. Except during price discovery phases, the cards’ costs in DEC are actually "fairly stable" (all things considered, we are still in the crypto space!).
What I noticed is that a price could fluctuate widely in terms of dollars value but not that much in DEC. This is an opportunity for players who can juggle between the two currencies.
The Highs and Lows of Discovery

As a new player, I was thinking mostly in terms of DEC as it was the sole currency I earned through playing the game. My little mind trick was to consider it as my daily wage in this new world and I still do.
With this mindset, I would argue that it is much easier for a new player to keep growing his/her nest in Splinterlands as the assets of this game need time to appreciate in value.
In the short term, focusing heavily on how many dollars we get can be extremely disheartening. That being said, if the money you spend in Splinterlands is mostly fiat, then, thinking in dollars of course makes a lot of sense.
In a nutshell
In conclusion, there are mainly two reasons why I encourage new players to think in terms of DEC once immersed in this new metaverse. The first reason is to maintain a high level of enthusiasm. The second is that there are actually opportunities to seize when a player can juggle between DEC and Dollars when purchasing new cards.
See you soon in this virtual foreign land!
