  • All units receive the Return Fire ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with ranged attacks receive damage back.

  • Damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.

  • Ranged attack units with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from reflected magic attacks.

  • The Amplify ability increases damage.

Hello SPL family

Another week, another set of Battle Mage secrets. This week's highlighted ruleset is Fire & Regre. In this ruleset, all units will have the return fire ability. So as much as possible, let's avoid using ranged attackers when this ruleset is active. If a unit has the reflection shield ability, it won't be affected by return damage, so you can use it in battle. To increase the return damage, you can use a unit with amplify.

The battle I'm sharing is from the Poseldar Wild Silver Invitational tournament, where I finished in 34th place with 14 wins and 8 losses. In this match, both my opponent and I avoided using ranged attackers to avoid the return damage. Due to the FabFour ruleset, which limits us to using only four units in battle, we needed to maximize our choices because we also have a large amount of mana available. Let's see how I won this battle.

MY BATTLE

The battle condition is 41 mana caps The elements that you can not use are earth, life, death, and, dragon. The rulesets are fire & regret, born again and fabfour

TEAM COMPOSITION

battle line up.png

For this battle, I chose Lily Shieldpaw as my summoner, who provides the camouflage ability to all units. She also gives +1 life to all units and triages to heal my backline. My plan for this battle is to focus the enemy's attack on the first position. For the first position, I selected Vruz, a melee attacker with sneak and martyr abilities. I placed him in the first position to quickly die and activate martyr, boosting the stats of the 2nd position for increased damage and speed. For the 2nd position, I chose Uriel The Purifier, a melee attacker with flying, recharge, and healing abilities. Uriel benefits from Vruz's martyr, becoming stronger. For the 3rd position, I selected Oshuur Constantia, a magic attacker with resurrect and reflection shield abilities. Constantia's resurrect ability revives Vruz to trigger martyr again, benefiting Uriel. For the last position, I chose Chaos Dragon, a magic attacker with flying, scattershot, and blast abilities. With the help of scattershot + blast, Chaos Dragon's attack can spread across the enemy.

KEYNOTES

Because of Vruz's twice resurrection, his martyr ability will also activate twice, benefiting Uriel, so he will gain +2 in all of his stats. Furthermore, his damage is increased due to the charge ability, so his total damage if he hits the enemy will be 18 damage.

BATTLE HIGHLIGHTS

In round 1, my plan succeeded wherein Vruz was revived twice, thus activating his martyr ability twice and benefiting Uriel. Initially, he was revived through the reborn ruleset, and subsequently, he was revived due to Constantia's resurrection ability. As a result, Uriel gained stats of 6 melee damage, 6 speed, 9 armor, and 15 life. It's still possible for Uriel to reach 18 damage due to his charge ability.

In round 2, the first monster to die in this battle was Grum. He was killed by Constantia through a magic attack.

In round 5, Carnage Titan also killed my Uriel. Before Carnage Titan killed my Uriel, his second attack missed three times in each round because of his flying ability plus his speed, which caused him to have a chance of missing his attacks. However, due to the reborn ruleset, Uriel was revived again in round 5.

The battle ended in round 7 because Thane New Song had no attack ability, and he also had no armor to block the physical damage, so he took Uriel's full 18 melee damage.

CONCLUSIONS - yellow font.png

  • Overall, my plan was successful, especially with Vruz being revived twice and his martyr ability activating twice.
  • Due to Uriel's flying ability and 6-speed, Carnage Titan missed his second attack three times, which prevented him from immediately killing Uriel in the 1st position.
  • Chaos Dragon's scattershot plus blast attack also greatly helped in hitting the enemy's backline.
  • By avoiding the use of ranged attackers in the battle, both my opponent and I managed to avoid the return damage from ranged attacks.
