Tips for beginners - Unit Positioning

Main Page Social Media.png

Hello Splinterlands family

I'm going to provide some advice for new Splinterlands players in this article. I'll give you a tip that revolves around the unit's placement during the fight. Even with a high-damage lineup or a card that is maxed out for the league you are playing in, positioning matters. Poor placement during the fight may lead to your defeat.

One example of this is when players use bronze-level cards to compete in the silver league. Because of their clever placement, they can overcome opponents with a maximum silver card. Another illustration would be the snipe and opportunity abilities found in the current "fog of war" ruleset. They cannot attack any location if you deploy a melee unit, and even with the snipe and opportunity ability, all of their attacks will only target the first position if you use range or magic attacks.

At this point, I'll go over a few of the fights and explain about the positioning.

My opponent is positioned well to play defense against the melee attacker in this bout. For defensive play, it is beneficial to use a unit with thorns ability in the first and last positions, along with the addition of amplify.

Due to the current super sneak rule in battle, my last position unit with thorns can defend against sneak attackers while my first and second position units are protected against magic attackers. In order to provide melee attacks to the unit without an attack, I have included a unit with weapon training ability. One of my units is Inspire ability to grant all melee attackers additional melee damage. Due to my superior damage over my opponent, I was able to win this battle even though they had a protective move for melee attackers.

In the most recent battle, my opponent is positioned incorrectly for River Nymph. In my opinion, River Nymp should come after Merdaali Guardian. It is preferable to put Daarg Deadblast next to Baakjira in order to offer Baakjira magic because of his weapon training ability.

To give Blackmoor Nymp and Grimbardun extra stats, I line up Fungus Flinger between them in my lineup. Fungus Flinger is simple to kill due to the ruleset's poison, and the martyr will activate, giving the unit next to him more stats. Moxian Rebel was also positioned between Grimbardun and Lurking Puffer. Due to his weapon training, Moxian Rebel grants them a magic attack.

Hopefully, my tips help the beginner in their battle. Always remember to think first about the ruleset and ability of the card before putting them on the battlefield.
