Use Martyr to create a Monster! ⚔ Splinterlands

Since the Martyr ability was released in Splinterlands I have tested it several times but have not found it as powerful (although it is better than Weapons Training ). It is very effective in matches with Target Practice or Explosive Weaponry rule because both make it possible for the card with this ability to be placed in the second position and upon death activate its buff on 2 allies.

If this situation is fulfilled then the Martyr ability will be quite effective but this is usually not the case. However, recently I realized that there is a way to make this ability more useful by combining it with a card that will make great use of the amplified status, justifying the choice of this ability even when it is not possible to buff 2 allies at once. Let's dig deeper into this concept and understand in what ways you can use the Martyr ability.

The first use is the most basic and also the most difficult, which is to try to get your card with Martyr to die first and get your buff activated on two allies. To do this you can rely on a few strategies:

Predict that the opponent will use a card with Opportunity and position a low life card that has the ability to be the target.
Predict that the opponent will use a card with Snipe and place a card that meets the criteria to be the target.
Use the combat rules to your advantage to make it easier to kill the card with Martyr . The best rules are:

  • Target Practice
  • Equal Opportunity
  • Noxious Fumes
  • Earthquake

The second way to use it is to focus on buffing a single extremely powerful card. This strategy is much easier to work and depends only on you having a card that can fulfill this role. Let's follow some examples to facilitate the understanding of this strategy.

Imagine a match with 20 Mana available. A strategy that was quite common in these battles was the Llhama+Kron combo and that in this case could have the addition of Fungus Flinger to give a permanent buff on all Kron the Undying stats that will be amplified by the Last Stand , making it even more difficult to overcome it.

+ +

Just put Fungus in the first position so that he dies and all buffs are activated on Kron, and then just watch him soloing all enemies. With the new Are You Not Entertained? rule which I covered in more depth in this post it is also possible to do this same combo with many extremely powerful Gladius that when receiving the buffs from Martyr will increase your chances of eliminating enemies and activating Bloodlust , generating a positive domino effect. In a recent battle I faced the perfect example on how to use this combo, the result was insane!

Battle.

When Quora Towershead receives these buffs her attack increases by 2, meaning she has 33% more damage and greatly increases the chances of being able to execute a slaughter that will cause the activation of Bloodlust and so on. Considering the cost of only 3 mana and also the fact that the card can tank a few attacks before dying makes this strategy very functional and worth trying if you have someone as strong as Quora or Kron to take on this role.

Initially I considered the Martyr and Weapons Training abilities to be similar in their mediocrity, however I have come to like Martyr more and hope to learn some strategies that will also change my opinion of the other ability. How was your experience using the Martyr Have you tested the strategies mentioned in this post? Share your doubts and strategies with us!

Some of these reward cards are seriously awesome. No reason why new players can't jump in now rent out a deck or some cards and just collect those soul bound cards to build a rather powerful deck to start playing with.

When they first announced Martyr I was a bit sceptic about it, but the more I play it I think it's amazing ability. I started overusing it 😝

I still feel afraid to use it because I can't activate the buff on 2 cards, but I understand that you can't always extract the maximum potential from an ability

Jugué Yugioh hace años y me costó mucho estudiarlo. Los juegos de cartas son muy estratégicos. Pero interesantes

I also played Yugioh throughout my childhood. Card games require a lot of study and strategic thinking to play at a competitive level haha
