Splinterlands SPS Governance - Giving Power to the Community

(Edited)

Hive continues to lead other blockchains its true decentralization at the main layer which is spreading to other layers of the blockchain. it is beautiful to see that some of the communities that started out centralized are making hard efforts to ensure that governance is pushed to the users. This is the true definition of web 3 and decentralization. This in sharp contrast to web2 systems where a selected few decide for the masses and as gulp the lots of the profits. Giving more powers to the community opens a project up for more participation, increased investment and innovation.

Splinterlands is one Hive community in the play to earn gaming category that continues to evolve and innovate in ways that keeps its products on top of their niche's toll. Splinterlands has become a leader in the GameFi sector of the cryptoverse, in terms of active users, innovation and overall growth. As it continues to spread its frontiers with multi-blockchain products, the Splinterlands team is consciously trying to create an open space that is completely decentralized so as to retain the teaming investors.

Splintershards (SPS) is the The cryptocurrency governance token for the Splinterlands game. Staking SPS in-game offers players the ability to control game-related decisions. Going forward, SPS Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) will be set up as a series of smart contracts on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) platform to allow SPS node validators take over the governance and distribution of SPS and do it in a decentralized way. Then, staking SPS into the smart contract (on BSC), will afford an investor to be able to control the DAO decisions.

So far, the recent outcome of Splinterlands game related proposal has shown that power is gradually moving into the hands of the community/players. Two of the recently proposed changes in the Splinterlands gaming economy has been vehemently opposed by the players courtesy of their SPS stake and the proposed change stands nullified. Voting details can be found here an details of the proposals are below:

The conversations trailing the two proposals have been very engaging as players and investors state their salient reasons for rejecting the change and it is worth noting. While the intents of the game developers could be very positive, it is beautiful to see that the community controls how the proposed change turns out. This would inform more demand for SPS for any concerned party to be able to vote to his favour especially as players soon begin to create proposals.

Remembering the Steem hostile takeover so hurts especially as hard earned cryptos of many hivers were frozen, simply because Justin Sun could manipulate the governance voting of the blockchain to his selfish favour with ninja mined STEEM. This cannot happen on Hive or within hive projects like Splinterlands with this healthy SPS Governance in place.

In a recent Splinterlands AMA, the team stated categorically that:

  • Goal with SPS Governance is to allow for anything to be proposed
  • In the future, players will be able to create proposals for a fee
  • It is up to the community to decide what they think should be implemented or not
  • Team goal is to take any ideals/feedback from the community and put them out
  • Team doesn't want to play gatekeeper and limit the ideals/feedback items that get proposed.

The Splinterlands team looks forward to a completely decentralized game such that anything can be changed as long as the community passes it through. It is getting interesting that holding a stake of SPS does not only give a juicy return plus qualifications for airdrops, but also affords the player the privilege of significantly contributing to the growth of the Splinterlands ecosystem.

The Splinterlands SPS Governance is no joke. There is a huge motivation to stack more SPS in the future with the assurances that one's investment in the game cannot be eroded by the team's decision.

Splinterlands game is termed the "next generation of collectible card games" in which allows players to collect, trade, and battle with provably scarce digital collectibles with real-world value. Battles on Splinterlands Unlike most trading card games, are fast and furious, and are usually completed within few minutes. The Splinterlands gameplay is simple and easy to learn viz: reviewing combat rules, making and submitting of the team and watching the battle unfold.

Yeah those two made no sense to me why you would do that. Sure you want to return peg of DEC to $0.001 but that's not the way to do it. That would also diminish the value of SPS even further as SPS is exclusive to buying those things. I'm glad both are going to fail and I like that the liquidity pool one looks like it's going to pass that one makes sense for the DEC peg as I thought liquidity pools were only going to be SPS in the first place I was kind of surprised to be earning DEC off some of those.
