Battle Mage Secrets: Broken Arrow - Mage Party

Prelude
Hello everybody, how is it going? I am back again for more Battle Mage Secrets. I think this initiative is a good follow through from the previous Share Your Battle after knowing more about the cards, now we focus more on the strategy on how to do card placement, card selection and also understand more on the ruleset to help us better our game.

The ruleset of the challenge this week is: Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow
Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.
Monsters with 2 types of attack (which include ranged) cannot be used.

Abilities/Cards that get shutdown with this rule set
As the rules speak for itself, goodbye to any range cards. My favourite range cards like Lira, Axemaster, Pelacor Arbalest all have to be benched and give way to others. Cards that possess abilities that suppress range attacks or abilities like return fire will not bring value.

What thrives with this ruleset?
When there is no range attackers, expect to see an upsurge in melee and magic. In general, magic reflect and thorns will be 2 amazing abilities to bring to the field. Summoners such as Mylor (Thorns) and Owster Rodwell (Magic Reflect) will be good choices to lead your lineup.

So in view of this, pay attention to the available Splinters in the match to have a guess on what you will likely face.

To handle melee, cards that possess Shield, Protect or Retaliate will come in handy. Also, with more melee, do also expect more sneak attackers as well. Prepare a good tank to handle the front and possibly the backline if possible. If there is space for Tank Heal or Repair, can include as well.

To handle magic, Void/Void Armour will be good additions. Then some Repair or Tank Heal to heal up the front tank or refresh its armour will ensure longer sustainability.

As usual stats wise, higher speed will do well and sufficient HP for tanks is equally important as well.

Prediction before pressing rumble
This is a brawl match hence there is Gladius cards involved. My opponent used a Conscript Summoner, hence able to field in 2 Gladius cards and both are equally daunting in their own ways. A very strong setup against me which had mix of Melee and Magic while I opted for a full magic lineup.

Battle Synopsis

Round 1, Attacks flying everywhere but absorbed by Mycelic Slipspawn and successfully healed up by Spirit Hoarder. My opponent's Drybone Barbarian got taken out this round.

Round 2, Another round of crazy barrage of attacks. Quora's own heal and Goblin Psychic heal proved very critical to keep Quora alive while the Triage ensured Mycelic Slipspawn to be kept alive. Marisol got taken out this round.

Round 3-4, The cycle repeats with Stitch Leech the victim for this round and Celestial Harpy for the next round.

Round 5, The match wrapped up in round 5 with both Captain Katie and Time Mage being taken out. Victory secured, no casualties on my side.

Post Battle Summary
Good match, outlasting an opposing lineup with 2 Gladius cards which are known strong cards and having no casualties. The healers, the protectors and the taunt did as they are intended to.

Did my strategy work? Yes it did. Without range attackers, I used my favourite magic line up and each carry an ability to make the lineup viable against the ruleset.

What's the Battle Mage Secret?
High health tank, protect, triage and tank heal. As per what I mentioned earlier, these are elements which will make the team viable and sustain long enough to take out enemies while keeping lineup safe.

Without range attackers, it will make us utilize the melee and magic attack cards in our arsenal. It will also test us on our understanding on how to put up cards to defend against expected cards as well.
