Battle Mage Secrets: Ferocity - Taunt? Think Twice or Be Punished

Prelude
Hello everybody, how is it going? It's time for more Battle Mage Secrets. Last week's sharing was scouring through the Fog of War to ensure we strike sufficiently to take down our enemies. This week the ruleset that will be discussed with be also regarding facing head on instead of hiding behind a taunting monster.

The ruleset of the challenge this week is: Ferocity

Ruleset Spotlight

Ferocity
All units have the Fury ability.

Fury: This Monster does double damage to targets with the Taunt ability.

Abilities/Cards that get shutdown with this rule set
This ruleset shuts down only one thing, Taunt. On a normal taunt has been one of my favourite ability as it diverts attack to a bigger tank, providing survivability to cards to do their mojo instead of being smashed right at first turn.

What thrives with this ruleset?

Everything else is the same. However, without the presence of taunt, certain squishy cards needs to be handled with more care to ensure survivability. Abilities that give more health, armour, void etc will all come in handy.

Next will be placement of tanks and backline support. No taunt means front tank will have to work harder and we need to prepare for backline cushion to protect squishy cards.

Another strategy will be to use abilities such as thorns from Mylor Crowling or Magic Reflect from Owster Rotwell.

So on top of all these, key is to watch the stats to include sufficient armour, health and fast speed as the general rule of the thumb for victory.

With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

Opponent Lineup

• Summoner - Tarsa
• Position 1 - Radiated Scorcher
• Position 2 - Antoid Platoon
• Position 3 - Disintegrator
• Position 4 - Uraeus
• Position 5 - Tenyii Striker
• Position 6 - Xenith Archer

Prediction before pressing rumble
2 very different lineup. I opted for a Gladius heavy lineup by putting up 2 Gladius cards while my opponent opted for an almost full melee lineup and even a Disintegrator to cut my melee attack.

Battle Synopsis

Round 1, Marksrat on my end fell and Katrelba gained Martyr. Radiated Scorcher from my opponent's lineup fell this round as well.

Round 2, Katrelba strikes and gain blood lust. Antoid Platoon was taken out by my Queen Mycelia.

Round 3, Tenyii fell to a grown Katrelba while Disintegrator couldn't hold up to the bombardment of my magic lineup. Finally Uraeus took out my Fungus Flinger and Quora gets Martyr boosted.

Round 4, Katrelba struck yet again, bringing the victory home by taking out Uraeus.

Post Battle Summary
A swift match that see how an unexpected card in the lineup taking a bigger role than what I intended. But all in all, still within my overall expectation.

Did my strategy work? Yes it did. I planned this time for 2 Martyr and also 2 Gladius, one at the front of the lineup and one right at the end of the lineup. For the Gladius, Quora take charge of clearing the front with her double attack and Katrelba take charge of clearing things from the back, sandwiching my opponent from both end.

What's the Battle Mage Secret?
The secret that I want to share is the sandwiching mechanism that I used in this match. The faster we can clear the front and back simultaneously will allow a quick victory. If mana permits, using some of the Gladius cards will be very useful as the grow bigger in stats with every card they kill, which makes it tougher for the opponent to reverse the match outcome. Not limited to ferocity ruleset, A chomping Gladius will become a very scary tank if not put under control.
