Social Media Challenge - Friendly Battle

Good day to all, how are all of you doing? Another hectic this week rushing all the work before the team break away for Chinese New Year. This week's Social Media Challenge I would like to do a battle sharing of a recent match that I had with a fellow metafren from Metafren Discord

This is where my humble beginning of my journey in Splinterlands started. When I first started Splinterlands, I was rather lost on what to do and had a real bumpy ride till I did a random search on google for "Splinterlands Singapore" which led me to a post by @namelessnameless. From there, I've managed to connect with him and subsequently being introduced to the discord where I met more fellow Singapore players like @relf87, @blitzzzz and @genming. From there, I've learnt more about the game, what cards to look out for to rent, how to improve my gameplay, joining tournaments hosted by nameless to help members to grow. If not for metafrens, I would still be scampering around trying to understand the game.

Today's Battle Sharing
How many times have you ever face your friends in Splinterlands from a ranked battle? To be frank when I count back, it is actually rather low probability due to the sheer number of players that Splinterlands have. So for today, because of this rare encounter, I will be doing a battle sharing of a recent match that I had with Genming.

Selection Analysis
When the player names flashed across the screen, I was like, "wow, a match with genming". Then when I saw the lineup that he put up, some chills went down my spine. I see a Gladius card alongside 2 very strong legendary cards, Grum Flameblade with it's Blood Lust ability and Drybone Raider with the Shatter ability. My assessment was that, odds are totally against me because that selection can easily beatdown any deck that stands in the way with 2x cards that can grow when the do a fatal blow.

For me, in my selection. I just went for a more conservative lineup to put up additional armour with Arkemis and Ferox Defender, both with Protect. But with the lurking Drybone Raider, whatever protection I put up will be smashed in a blow. Then I planted 3 sneak attackers in the form of Uraeus, Sand Worm and Tenyii Striker. And finally give my backline a little more protection, I added Antoid Platoon with shield as the rear guard.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - My Sand Worm effectively took out opponent Scorch Fiend while my Arkemis and Antoid Platoon took some damage. No other casualties this round.

Round 2 - Wow, this was not expected because my lineup has managed to wreck opponent's line up with all the sneak attacks and Arkemis is holding up strong against Grum. 2 big cards to deal for subsequent turns.

Turn 3 - Arkemis falls to the blow of Grum whom triggered Blood Lust while my sneak attackers bring down the health of Gorth to 1.

Round 4/5 - Picking up the pieces with Gorth falling on round 4 and Grum being taken out in round 5. Somehow, I managed to win. Sorry bro Genming. Victory secured!

Wrap Up
All in all, it is always nice to meet a friend in battle. While chances are low, you know when you meet them, they will give their best to put up a strong lineup. I like the match above because the way it came at me, it really look like a goner for me but somehow because of my double protection, I managed to overturn the odds and bring me a victory.
