Splinterlands Ranked Reward Update: A Silver league player’s point of view - Part 1

New Ranked Rewards.jpg

24th May 2022. It has been a very long time since anything exciting has happened in Splinterlands.

Yes, there were some significant changes and collaborations, but they had nothing to do with me:

Waka Spiritblade? I would be lucky to afford a level 4 Chaos Legion summoner.
SPS nodes? It took me close to 3 months into the game to buy my first SPS token.
New legendary airdrop? I have zero eligible packs in the game.

The need to find something exciting and rewarding to do in Splinterlands is an understatement.

A breath of fresh air

It’s high time for a change of pace in the game.

For most of us, it takes only about 4-5 days to hit the highest rating required of our league. After that, we are just chilling and grinding our daily quests.

Even the worse bots can complete that given enough matches.

There will be people sharing from the point of view of an investor, a whale, a crypto expert, etc… but I am interested in the player’s point of view.

As this post will probably be long enough, here is a quick review of the impactful changes coming our way:

Top 5 changes relevant to players

  • Reward Shares (aka Rshares)

Rshares will be the most crucial denominator moving forward. It affects all rewards earned in the game - DEC per win, daily reward chests, and season reward chests.

How we min/max this will be key to what we can earn with our gameplay.

  • Starter cards (aka ghost cards) will reduce your Rshares

All of us will have to go shopping, whether we like it or not.

  • Different league, different loot chest

Higher league = better loot chest
Better loot chest = more Rshares needed per loot chest
Lower league = fewer Rshares per win

A lot of math will be going into this to figure out how to min/max this, so I’m looking forward to seeing the results after one season of play in the new update.

  • Daily focus will replace daily quest

No more stopping after 5 match wins. If you want, you can grind up to 30 loot chests a day (if you are able to).

  • New reward cards

A bountiful total of 12 cards will be honouring us with their presence. Outside of the legendary airdrops, this is the first addition of new cards into the mix for me.

Many questions to answer

All these changes are very welcomed by the community in general. And they have created a lot of buzz and speculations:

What will happen to card prices and the rental markets?
Which league should I be playing in?
Will the bots be draining lesser from the Splinterlands economy?

And the golden question is: What should I be doing to min/max my rewards in the new rewards system?

This is what I would like to find out as we explore this new space together.

Only time will tell which way the chips will fall, and I trust the Splinterlands team will tweak things to push the game in the right direction.
