Part 2: Silver to Champion – Go Go Gadget Grind

champion rank mobile!.jpg

Rent Vs Return :

On reaching silver 3 using only base cards I now found myself confined to lower bronze by power alone. At this point came the time to think carefully about renting cards and carefully balancing the amount of rental spend vs the return from wins.
You probably want to try and stay under 500 DEC a day in these leagues.
My personal strategy is to rent for a single day and run my Energy Recover Rate from 100% down to about 30% then wait 4 days and go again.
You do not need huge amounts of high level units at this stage. Diversity is key. Being able to adapt as you learn the new game conditions and use monsters that are efficient will get you a long way.

Here are your level caps for Silver league:

What to rent:

A common question at this stage would be what do I rent? The obvious choice would be to go grab a few OP legendries and grind through. While you can do this, this is not efficient and you will almost certainly end up with a negative NET deck.
My suggestion would be to focus on 2 splinters and rent level 3 commons to support your push. In most cases with a bit of strategy this is more than enough to push through silver and into gold

Here are some considerations for silver:

Generally when looking at these cards I’m considering the commons at level 3 and everything else at level 1. If you want to invest or rent higher level cards the cards that are strong change dramatically.

Mylor Crowling – Incredibly strong in melee only matches and great if you want to gamble on your opponent using melee heavy sneak teams.
Wood Nymph – Solid healer, bit of magic damage, keeps the tank alive.
Flesh golem – LEVEL 3+ ONLY, gains heal and has high health, combined with Wood Nymph is almost impossible to kill. Very strong vs teams that don’t use skills that target the backline.
Magi of the forest – Decent base stats, and base stats are king in low leagues where cards don’t have many abilities.
Nectar Queen – solid tank if you’re not using Flesh Golem, has flying which can be useful for dodge and earthquake mode.
Albatross – The 1 mana dodge tank, a very decent filler to try dodge sneaks etc. and really strong dodge tank in reverse speed mode.
Sea Monster – High stats, self-heal. Solid tank.
Kelp Initiate – Super high stats for 2 mana. Really great tank or second in lots of situations to soak damage.
Sea Genie – Solid flyer with magic damage – good for earthquake and paired with magic damage leaders.
Axe Master – Has 2 attacks and decent stats. Really strong in higher mana battles. If going this route you probably want to force focus first place will all your units.
Creeping Ooze – Staple level 1 card: provides a slow to all enemies, can be the difference in mirrors.
Sand Worm – Staple card. High melee damage and sneak in lower leagues means it can one shot A LOT of cards. Incredibly strong in reverse speed.
Furious Chicken – Very strong in low mana battles to tank the first hit or tank a sneak hit. Always shove it in your team when you have free slots.
Grenadier – Has some interesting uses in lower mana battles when people are using cards with no damage as tanks. The double damage can be game changing.
War Chaang – Really solid secondary position. Has melee and ranged attacks so not useless when not in tank slot. Has retaliation which is strong in melee only mode.
Brighton Bloom – Gives everyone flying. Captain free win for your earthquake matches if your opponent doesn’t use it.
Daria Dragonscale – Solid dragon leader that buffa all melee by +1. Best combo’d with the Vigilator, Silvershield Assasin, Life Splinter and additional Damage Increasers.
The Vigilator – As above, super strong with Daria leader, really useful in high mana modes when you can use life. Vigilator in first position, taunt in second and all the sneak behind it.
Lorna Shine – Low mana god. Allows all your units to take an extra hit. When everything has low stats this is crazy good. Try her out.
Silvershield Assasin – Double strike and sneak, really dangerous when given increased damage. A solid unit to destroy teams back to front.

Gold – The Breakthrough

Gold is where the game really starts to change. People will no longer be playing level one units and this can start to cause problems. Gold is where I began to rent stronger cards.

Here is the breakdown for gold level caps:

Gold – Strategy

At this point when renting I was really looking to combine cards that provided maximum stats and skills for minimum cost and also DEC value. This led me into Earth as a main splinter and Water as a backup. With 2 Splinters you can cover a large portion of the game modes and the chance of not having an active Splinter is decreased. Ideally you want to bolster you 2 Splinters with Neutrals and maybe even Dragons id you can rent cheap enough.
Remember your Summoner level needs to be high enough to utilise your cards!

My Rentals:
Here are the cards I used to go from Gold all the way to Champion. My total score doing this was 53 Wins – 13 Losses. Please be aware I spent a lot here as I was confident I had done enough research to reach champion fast with a high win rate and then could earn my DEC back in champion league.

To End :

Good luck with the grind. Pay attention to game modes and find out what monsters work best for each. More game mode strategy to come in the future.
Look forward to seeing you all there! – Winty.

Very Impressive to reach Champion in this amount of time. Any tips on how you got a good understanding of the game and which units are strong?

Thank you, I think my biggest tip, as obvious as it may be, is to take some time to watch top battles every day for each league. You get a really good idea of what units are being used for each game mode and how to utilize them.
With specific units, its very hard to just outright say a unit is strong. Units power is very specific to the level of the unit, league and game mode its used in.

great write up, was at diamond for a while but the rentals have gotten expensive (had a few contracts broken I had from the early rental 2.0 days) and been struggling in silver/gold now as I miss some skills and cards.

Gonna try some of the strategies you suggested, cheers!
