Splinterland Sundays!: Summoners Complete!

Another week of intense battles happening as the Season draws closer to an end and the competition heats up for a spot in the Top 50 for some in demand Beta Booster packs which continues to point towards selling out very soon! Whereas in the past, competition seemed to have grown slightly from Season to Season as players upgraded their cards with the rewards received; now, it seems like the competition grows exponentially every Season. I am almost sure that I will not achieve Top 50 this Season despite investing a larger than usual amount this Season which usually would have helped me improve in placements. However, I think that the addition of Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) has made the leveling up easier as it is now a currency to purchase cards on the markets.

While I have chosen to HODL my DEC for future Potions, I can see the amount of DEC being transferred around quite often and think it is great for the community and the ecosystem as it demonstrates how value is being created by the economy that continues to be developed around Splinterlands. Soon, new cards will be available and the printing of existing ones will stop and potentially have a large impact to the availability of competitive decks in the long run so I think this is still just beginning.

In experiencing these shifts over the last year, I have put together a plan to build my Collection in order to remain as competitive as I can since I enjoy playing the game so much. My first goal was to maximize most of the Legendaries that were deemed useful in the game to ensure that I had that power available when battling. That lead to my first taste of buying cards in the market rather than trying my luck and buying packs. In addition, most of my Collection are Alpha cards so I could no longer buy Alpha packs (at least easily) to try my luck. I have purchased almost all the Legendaries in Alpha in order to have them at max level for battles.

However, I quickly realized an important miscalculation in my efforts; my Summoners were not maxed out and in fact were limiting the level of the Monsters I was using with said Summoner. So despite having a strong card, I could not use its full potential or abilities in battle because of my Summoner. I realized it a bit too late as I prices had already increased significantly for most Summoners in the market. Again, since I had Alpha focused cards, it would be even more expensive. I had also did the same with the Epic and Legendary Summoners as they were one level off of maximum when I had originally purchased them.

While I was happy I was only one level off of maximum, I quickly realized that it take virtually the same amount of combined cards in place to get to that last maximum level! This is where I really started to learn about the marketplaces for cards as @peakmonsters became a bookmark on my browser almsot immediately as I would look at the market multiple times a day for an opportunity to buy the cards needed to complete my mission. Long story, short; after probably $1,000, I have finally completed a full set of Summoners at maximum level (with some exceptions). The last was the Legendary Summoner Peakrider which I had only bought one to have it and only pulled one from my 200 Beta Booster pack opening with potions. I dug deep and purchased 9 in the market which costed over $100!

However, I did not buy any Neb Seni as it was an exclusive offer from the Kickstarter and the prices vs the benefits did not make me go that far in spending much more than any other to complete the objective of maximizing it. In addition, I have not been graced with the luck to pull a Archmage Arius which is only available through the daily mystery packages. I was tempted weeks ago to buy one for $200 but did't which I regret as it has been announced that only 90 will ever be printed and we were already past halfway. I continue to use potions on both my accounts to get one (fingers crossed)! The mystery potion is well worth the 6,000 DEC (or lower with discounts) they cost given the ability to also get Beta Packs and Orbs.

I have now set my eyes on Monsters that will no longer be printed after Betas disappear if they are worth maxing out. I still have the majority of my collection one level below but I am looking on improving that and have started with the Neutral monsters as they are very useful in battle and have already seen some price increases in preparation for the sell out to occur. For example, I also purchased 4 more Hydras to complete that one as well! The game is changing quickly and those not prepared will really need to spend a lot if wanting to compete in the future. I am not sure how long it will last for me but I know I have some good value captured if I don't as well!
