How to improve the Steemmonsters reward system? (Poll + Small Giveaway #3)

Poll

Many discussions have been held among players about the recent changes to the reward system. As a new player I find its current implementation extremely unsatisfying. I complete my 5 daily wins, get a crappy reward card and have basically no incentive to keep on playing (as the amount of DEC you earn in Bronze league is a joke - it will take me over 100 days to earn enough for an orb).

I'm in favor of @simplymike's idea to reward quest streaks in some way. Many games already do this and it would encourage people to log in every day.

Another suggestion I'd like to make is to change the reward quests to task lists instead of having just one quest. On these lists there could be multiple quests for each day. For instance "use a magic attack to deliver the final blow 5 times" or "heal your tank 30 times". This would be more difficult to farm with bots and at the same time keep users playing after completing the initial "5 wins with splinter X" quest.

What are your thoughts on the reward system? Please include in your comment in which league you are playing as this might make a huge difference with your level of satisfaction.

Giveaway

As a small token of appreciation an Exploding Dwarf card will be raffled among all participants & commentators.
Exploding Dwarf

In case of multiple comments by one person only the first one will count as entry. The winner will be picked at random and is going to receive the card after the poll closes. (Bots do not participate; no upvote, resteem or follow required.)

Be sure to also check out my other giveaway(s).

Ps.: Don't have a Steemmonster Account yet? Join through my referral link and comment here. I will buy you cards from the market with the affiliate earnings I get from your starter pack purchase.

  • I want the old reward system back!

  • There should be Booster reward for quest streaks.

  • There should be a task list with more complex quests running in parallel.

  • There should be other changes to the reward system. (Please elaborate)

  • I like the current reward system.

Answer the question at dpoll.xyz.

Way to go, @handtalk5.

You already referred to the proposal I made in mypost 'Steemmonsters' 'All-Or-Nothing'- Policy - There Has To Be A Middle Way:

How about rewarding people who complete 7 Daily Quests in a row with a free booster pack? It would be an incentive for them to play and put in an effort every day, while it means a lot less booster packs go out the door for free.

I currently play in Diamond and Champion - I merged my accounts for the exact reason you name: it was simply not worth the time to keep playing in the lower leagues.

I like your idea of giving people a chance to earn more rewards by offering a task list. It allows people to spend as much or as little time playing, deciding for themselves whether they want to earn more reward or not.

Thanks for bringing this up again.
The game needs more players, but for that they need to make it more attractive for new players/players with lower level decks.

Guess it will be a good idea to invite some people here to vote.
2 everyone: sorry for the long tag list, but imo this is a pretty important matter if we want to keep new players around...

It would be great if you could share your opinion (and maybe invite some more people) :0)

You're welcome.
The unfair rewards system of Steemmonster is something that has been bothering me for months. I addressed it every time I could, with all means possible. I even started the @itisjustme account to prove how hard (impossible??) it was to grow your account without investing. Wrote multiple posts and numerous comments about it. I guess I drove some people crazy with my own little war.
At one point, I asked for some technical assistance in the Discord channel and I was professionally ignored 🤣🤣

I gave up the active fight when I realized that it was a waste of energy. I was not a big fish, so they didn't listen anyway, even though I was trying to make them realize they needed to make the game more attractive for small players if they wanted to grow their player base.

It makes me happy to see others (you in this case) care enough to publicly address the issue. Who knows, maybe things have changed, and maybe they have learned to listen to the people by now. I haven't read all comments yet - I'm curious to find out what other people think. 😉

Btw, @handtalk5, do you have that Discord account yet? Since you're doing the 'no upvote no resteem, no follow required'- thing you can ask to get whitelisted in the @contestkings Discord server and submit your contest there. They will then add it to their daily post and you can get even more people to see your post. Here's the link to the Contestkings Discord server: https://discord.gg/UXKb5Ts

Yep, I'm on Discord by now. Although just barely active. Was hanging out in the Splinterlands channel a little recently.
I'll go check out the @contestkings community. Thx for the tip!

Glad you tagged. I really do like the idea of different tasks like mentioned above vs. the win five battles and log out. I'll leave a comment for the author as well. I hope all is going well for you my dearest friend. Thanks again for the tag.
P.S. you should have tagged aggy too.

What an interesting topic, I have never heard of the multiple task list idea, that is very cleaver. I had become very heavy on the idea of having a series of a best of 5, or maybe even as many as 7, where you are allowed to use each splinter including the dragon once, so that decks are forced to be fairly complete to finish quests. Win one series like this-quest completed. Lose two series like this, quest over for the day try again tomorrow. Sounds brutal, but limits time to load for next match already having an opponent, is massively more time efficient, and if you keep winning you keep playing-rather than just having to play several hundred matches each season you engage in these series until you lose two-then go play tournaments, challenge a friend, or perhaps find something else to do rather having to play this 3-5 hours a day to have a shot at being among the highest ranked in the game. Or even better yet, if you must play that much, go lease or buy another account full of top notch cards. If that happened the amount of cards floating around on the market and in the delegation market would vanish in a heartbeat.

Lol, your idea would completely destroy me, @cryptkeeper17. It would be over really quickly for me: I think I've won 5 battles with the Life splinter in all the time I have been playing 😂

But it's great to see ideas popping up. I hope this time they will be open for suggestions... (as if... 😉)

I'm done with sharing any opinions on these topics or the game itself. The only thing I've ever had in return, is name calling and ridicule from certain individuals, who made a career on this platform by complaining about the unfair system on their soap box blog designed for attention seeking and nothing else. Now that the tables have turned and they are an "investor" you won't find them caring two shits about any of this, apart from their own self interest and nothing else. They have only become a convenient mouthpiece for the big shots #pr spin.

Thanks for the tag @simplymike.

This is hard - I am still playing my Beta only Alt - stuck in Gold 3. My thoughts are this - it is hard to start and play for free - but it can be done. Its just a matter of time and effort put in.

Over 7 months I have gotten up to level 3 summoners and a decent deck with reward cards being 90% of my income source. DEC has been nice but it has also caused cards to 3x in price. offsetting any gains. I have never played a tournament or entered a giveaway - Its all just from what I have earned in the game.

I like the idea of a middle ground - and could support a change if they offered challenges like you mentioned and you could earn DEC - but nothing crazy. Challenge Streaks, or other bonuses.

I think beta packs need to stay as purchase/tournament prize only.

As far as keeping more lower players. I am delegating a lot of my extra gold foil cards to members of #SSG who are lower levels and need a boost. While the rental market is great for the top level cards, free delegations can really help those lower accounts get some momentum.

I admire your determination playing senstlessmonster. I quit the experiment with @itisjustme the moment I realized I would never be able to get my summoners up to level 4 without putting in extra money. And that was before they lowered the number of reward cards you get for completing a quest.
First, I started cheating a little, by selling the reward cards to my other accounts, then I took it a step further and delegated my extra level 4 cards to @itisjustme, but even then... the rewards (cards + DEC) wasn't worth the time I put in. So in the end I merged all my lower level accounts and now there are only two left. One is almost maxed, one is level 6.

To be honest, imo, rewards are worth it in the highest leagues. But that's it. Of course that's the reason you never hear mavs complain... they are taken care of... 🙄

I always like to hear how people are helping others out. Remember how many cards I got for the @itisjustme account, simply because I wrote a cute post? I'll never forget the generosity people showed 💜

I'm delegating a couple of 'upgraded' level 1 decks (= starter deck + missing commons, rares and epics) to people who want to learn to play the game, and the few spare higher level cards I have left I delegate too. That reminds me, I should set up a new contest with some gold card delegations as a prize again.

Arrived from simplymikes shout out:

It has been about 3 months since I played steem monsters, so I am not really familiar with the reward system any longer. Wish I could help, but just got to busy doing other things.

I know I did not like it much when the reward cards for lower levels went way down and reward cards for upper levels hardly took a hit, then setting it so that your reward was based on the highest level you reached not where you finished, just meant that larger accounts touched the upper levels then dropped down to seemingly prevent smaller accounts from leveling upward, I know this was not the real case in actuality, but there seemed to be more than a few accounts acting in this trollish manner enough so that I started to lose interest in the daily quest.

It's a game, and people are going to game it for their maximum benefit. No problem with that at all to a point. But like I said, I got busy doing a few other things lately.

Thanks for chipping in, @bashadow. I know you don't play anymore, I guess tagging you was an old habit 😁

Nothing has changed in these last three months, and it's not likely they will, because from what i read in the Discord channel, aggy got what he wanted: outsiders who hear about the game and buy in, purchasing hundreds of booster packs.

But I couldn't let this post disappear unnoticed. Lol, you know how I feel about fighting for the rights of the smaller players 😉

I would also like to see you earn more DEC should you hold DEC that would give users an incentive to keep more/stake so they're rewards are more over time. That will also drive up the scarcity of it and people wouldn't just dump it or burn it as soon as they earned it

I'd also like to see more uses for DEC like burn DEC for 2 daily reward quests

I'm not sure what would be best but I definitely think something needs to be done to help new players improve their decks. If prices keep going up then it simply won't be possible for the average person to get enough cards to compete.

I'm not sure about a task list though as it would still favour the people with the best selection of cards.

I was knocked out of tournaments 4 times today by the same player. I had no chance of beating him because I simply don't have the cards that he has, e.g. the promo cards and both epic and legendary summoners.

I've been thinking about the new player/cards getting more and more unobtainable problem a lot lately and I'd love to hear the developers' thoughts on it.

Have you seen the prices for summoners? $1.20 for Alric... this is insane...

0

Actually that sounds quite cheap to me as I don't buy cards very often so don't know what they were. So many cards are above $1.20 now it doesn't sound too shocking. I've obviously got used to the high prices when I see them. But most of the time I click on cards to buy and then when I see just how much Steem that is and I don't complete the transaction.

I truly am puzzled by how the game with bring in new players and keep them but maybe there is a plan we know nothing about or, as I've said elsewhere, maybe it is a business model which can survive with people who are willing to spend the big bucks.

I don't get upset about it anymore. It's not worth the wasted energy getting down about it. But I am curious as to what the furture holds.

And also slightly concerned that, if there comes a time to get out, I'll miss it! 😁

So I'm wondering whether to take some profits now.

I collected some data last season so at least I can look at the figures and see what's possible for me personally which will help me decide on a strategy.

At least in theory. I never seem to decide fast enough and everything changes so I end up continuing to plod along. 😂

I truly am puzzled by how the game with bring in new players and keep them

These last couple of days, I've been following up on discussions in the SM Discord server, and apparently aggy is getting what he initially wanted. Blockchain gamers looking for new games and bumping into Steemmonsters. They check it out, and buy hundreds, no thousands of booster packs at once. Those were the people he was targeting all along, and now he seems to be getting it.

I'm struggling with the exact same thing: when will be the right time to get out, and will I be too late? (Probably, as I always am.) I wnt to keep my main account, but I'm going back and forth about the other one.

The problem is I'm having the same thoughts about Steem.... No way I can take out profits - the price is too low for that - but how to minimize the damage...

They check it out, and buy hundreds, no thousands of booster packs at once.

I think it's only one person actually but he's bought so many I wonder whether in the "normal" world he would be considered to have a monopoly. I'm not sure how such things work but is it's never helpful for a single person to have a strong dominating influence.

Maybe his stake is no bigger than the whales already present.

I suppose that's the nature of being on the cutting edge. It's always a bit of a gamble. Get it right and you can make a fortune and vice versa. I've only invested money I can afford to lose so far but I've invested an awful lot of time! 😁

The problem is I'm having the same thoughts about Steem

I still have faith in Steem. Not the blogging aspect but the blockchain generally. So I'm hoping BTC will drop a bit again and then I'll buy some more.

I'm tempted to invest more in SM but I'm holding back whilst the future plans are unclear. They like to play their cards close to their chest that's for sure!

I'm confused.... You'll buy BTC or Steem?

Or you buy BTC to buy Steem with?

Last case scenario, isn't BTC like the worst option to buy other crypto with? (It used to be like that, but since I have found out I can buy Steem straight from fiat, I haven't checked anymore)

I use BTC to buy Steem because it worked out a better deal than buying Euros first. You can't buy directly with Sterling. But I haven't checked that recently.

I won't use BTC again though because it takes so long. I bought a bit this morning and more than 8 hours later I'm still waiting for it to show up in Blocktrades.

Last time I used LTC but the price was holding better than BTC this morning. But, knowing me, I probably got the maths wrong anyway and . . . I learned today that the fees are more expensive than for LTC or ETH. I had no idea. I thought the were all the same.

All of this is still a minefield for me. Trading of any kind really isn't my game.

If only I could buy Steem with Sterling, things would be so much easier.

I learned today that the fees are more expensive than for LTC or ETH. I had no idea. I thought the were all the same.

That was why I asked. BTC is like the slowest and most expensive way to go. But then again... I only know because I've messed around with it in the past.

I know being able to buy steem with Euros has made life a lot easier... maybe too easy. Since I don't have to go through all the hassle of exchanging anymore, i've been spending way too much 😉

I really like your idea of a more complex and robust rewards system with different tasks to complete. I think we should keep the daily quest, but that we need something else to keep us from just "log in, win 5, log out, wait 24 and repeat." Thanks for not just creating a post and being negative. You pointed out a problem and you are thinking of potential solutions. That means a lot. And as for tagging others, my great friend @simplymike has tagged everyone I could have thought of other then @aggroed. Maybe SM has something new and exciting coming and he can let us know all about it.

I'm not sure what the old reward system entailed but it would be nice to be able to be rewarded a summoner or orb card. Maybe a mini pack of some kind.

Think the task list bonus for any kind of winning streak would be great. Perhaps I could do in battle bonuses as well. Basically if you're in a battle in all your monster survive you would get some sort of Angie Crystal bonus or perhaps a card bonus whatever. Thanks for sharing

I have long advocated that the reward system needs a simpler way to grind your deck to a stronger position. The simplest way to do that, would be to include a summoner for each splinter among the reward cards

Summoners are indeed the problem. I got my f2p deck up to level 3, but leveling up summoners to level 4 is just way too expensive. It's almost impossible without spending extra money...

After 5 month of playing SM, I'm still in Bronze. Why?
It's just because I don't have spare money to level up my deck enough to compete with bots, playing 2-3level cards. I can level up some my revard cards, like Rusty or Vampire but I can't allow myself to buy summoners to use these cards.
So, it would be great to have some extra quests where we can get summoners as a reward.

Hey @che-shyr
It is indeed hard to grow your deck if you don't have any money to spend. A couple of months ago, I started an experiment with an anonymous starter deck and tried to grow it without spending anything else than what I could earn on SteemIt and the dApps. I managed to get my summoners up to level 3, but that was it. And that was before they decided to give out fewer reward cards for completed quests, and before the introduction of DEC (which made beta cards go up in price - I just checked the market and noticed summoners have almost doubled in price 😱).

I only got past those annoying bots because I had been playing the higher leagues for a while. My experience was a huge advantage.

Your story is the perfect example of what's wrong with the game, in my opinion. It shouldn't be that hard to get to a higher level without spending a truckload of money. If they would make some changes that would allow people to grow their account through playing, they would have a much bigger player base. This system only drives people away.

I admire your determination.
It's a bit stupid I just sold all my extra cards. I could at least have helped you and delegate some cards so your deck would at least be more complete.

But...

What I can do is invite you to our Team Possible guild on Discord. We're just a bunch of players, new players as well as top 10 players, who are helping each other out. For example, there are several players who have decks they delegate to others, so they get a chance to try out the game with a full deck, or even a higher level deck.

Earned rewards are split between player and delegator. It could be a way to earn some extra so you can get those summoners, or complete your deck.

Feel free to drop by. Here's the link to the Discord server: https://discord.gg/SFTDw4J

I'm only around during GMT day time, but there are people from all over the world, so most of the time someone is around, or will be around soon.
If you are interested to join, go to 'general chat' to say hi. Tell them I invited you and told you you could ask for a deck to play. All good people in there. 👌

the game will be interesting if there will be wonderful rewards, it's true. For me I think in doing a reward's it should be exciting. Like in completing a quest, this should be rewarded with a beautiful. The hardwork in playing should be paid good. In winning streak there should be a rare cards. You know it's hard to win a streak, player's means always having a practice in the game.

that's only I can share but I will go into dpoll to vote

You're totally right! I'm in bronze and it's difficult to justify spending over an hour sometimes to win a single lousy card. And then I see people in gold and above getting crazy cards from their dailies... with enough dec to get daily mysteries etc.

-- they definitely need to focus on retaining new players... pay to win sucks.

Yep. Totally agree: pay to play/win is a very unfair system.

Feel free to join our Team Possible Guild on Discord. There are decks available for delegation (earnings are split between players and delegators) - it might be a way to earn some extra so you can grow your own deck. (More info in the comment I linked to)

It seems I'm not the only user who tried to play without spending hundreds of STEEM on buying cards.;-)
Delegation with splitting the rewards... I've heard of such model. Sounds interesting, I definitely have to try it out. Thank you for the invitation. But I think for developers it would be much better option to give users a chance to win their own summoners, as well as common and rare cards in our daily quests.
With our curent reward model, I came to the conclusion that this game doesn't need small fishes like me or @ handtalk5. Looks like deliverers want to have it popular among "big wallets", investors who are ready to pay more to win more. To buy all these packs, orbs and gold cards. That's why we'll alvays have the same bunch of 20-30 people, winning all the tournaments and sharing the reward pool.
Unfortunately, our precious time spent on the game isn't equal to someone's money spent, no matter what our whitepaper say.

I am mostly in Silver leagues, sometimes getting in gold3. I do think that current reward system does not correspond the price of the starter pack as it is pretty difficult to proceed further without additional investments and only free way is participating in giveaways and renting some good cards on the market

Thank you for the giveaway!
