Steem Alliance Structure Proposal Voter Registration

To be able to participate in the upcoming election of the structure of this foundation, you must register to vote through the dpoll link at the bottom of this post.

The Community's Foundation

Two months ago an idea was put forward for a community foundation. A foundation, built by the community, that would hopefully fill a void that was missing here on this platform; Letting the community have a voice and take ownership in the future development of The Steem Blockchain.

What Will This Foundation Look Like?

Well that is up to all of us, the community.

Even though we had some bumps along the way, the community elected a working group to help organize an election of a structure of this foundation, essentially what it will look like, what it will do, and how it will work.

Structure Proposals

The Working Group announced The Official Call For Proposals a little over a month ago and so far we have had 11 teams submit their proposals.

Based on the initial timeline for proposals, we are in the third and final phase of proposals, and are aiming to get them in a final state by March 30th, 2019. After that, we will be selecting the structure proposal via a poll.

How Will The Vote Be Weighed?

While the working group is leaning towards a stake-weighted vote (linear with cap), it has not been finalized yet. We will be making the final decision after careful review and will announce when we feel confident we have explored every option.

Voter Registration

We have decided that we would like to set up on-chain registration. This serves two purposes:

  1. To get an idea if our method of vote weighting will be sufficiently fair.
  2. To push more people to be familiar with the current proposals so they can make a more informed vote.

As of the end of stage 1, the current proposals are listed here. We would like more eyes on all the proposals so that they can fill in any missing details. So do take a look and comment!


Rewards from @steemalliance posts will be powered up going forward until the account reaches 200sp. After that all remaining will be sent to @null. This will allow the account to function without delegation, while still keeping with the original goals of this group.

Hey, @steemalliance, et al.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, only those who choose to register will get to vote on a proposal? I can see you're wanting to gauge the fairness of vote weight, but the only options are yes and absolutely. So, I'm wondering how fairness is to be determined? Hopefully, that doesn't sound like I'm trying to be difficult, because I'm not. I'm just trying to understand how this is supposed to figure vote weight out.

Also, what happens after this. Will those who are willing to register be the only ones notified of the vote, or since dpoll pretty much is public, will the votes of the registered be the only ones counted?

The response doesn't matter. If dpoll had a single option that would have suited us just fine. Meaning we count them all.

Fairness is really about not making it so a handful of people dominate the % voting weight. I set a target to be that the top 30 accounts, say, don't control more than say 10% of the total voting weight. I don't think it really matters what the number is, really, and the formula proposed doesn't affect that many accounts even (while hitting that target). And it makes it so that it isn't a hard cutoff either. The more stake, the higher the vote value, and it is mostly linear except at the top.

After this, in the proposal selection vote, only the registered votes will be counted.

As a diverse and multi opinionated community... Aren't we missing the opportunity to gauge better the general sentiment, including in this initial poll like at least a couple of additional options from where to choose too?

This poll is simply to register, not choose anything in the foundation. There will be an election at a later date where the community will be choosing a proposal structure (as stated in the post). If you do not want to register to vote, then don’t.. by simply not taking part in this poll.

If we could only have “yes” as an option than we would have but dpoll makes you use two answers.

If you are confused about what this is, then please read some of the blogs from this account and register after, as the goal here is for people to be informed in the future election.

This is only being used as an on chain way to register for the upcoming election and nothing more.

Hello @ecoinstar, as explained in the post, the working group will be finalizing that soon but we are leaning to stake weighted with a linear cap.

This post is simply using dpoll as a way to register those who want to participate in the upcoming election (date yet to be announced) on chain.

More information will be announced about the vote specifically and when the final election of the proposals for the structure of the foundation some time in the next week or so.

Glad to see you went ahead and registered 🙂 and we appreciate that informative feedback.

I assume the other project that “Ned already threw his backing” is the Steem DAO? It’s a completely different project, with different goals and therefore it’s not a competitor to this foundation. Ned is committed to this foundation, as he always has been, feel free to message and ask him if you need to. The foundation does need to be designed to not fully depend on Ned of course.
