Splinterlands' tournament dailies and higher BCX requirements in Untamed EXPLAINED!

(Edited)

Matt tried to reduce pre-gold daily quest rewards, but everyone raged at it so he had to deal with it in another way. Warning: this is all speculation.

It's kind of what happened with gremlin blaster but towards something much more important to Splinterlands in the in the long term.

This was probably being tested already but the mavericks hated those low-level daily reward reductions. Unlike Gremlin Blaster, it was a really healthy move. Daily rewards are overpowered. Every card generated doesn't just have value by itself, it is also a chance at over seventy dollars (legendary gold foils).

If you think about it, 1 reward card every 1250 is worth at least $70. These are massively distributed in as early as silver league, an easily reachable rank without spending much back when beta boosters were available. You barely needed any cards to get a strong enough team to join gold rank due to their low BCX costs.

Bots are a problem only because daily quests are overpowered. If that reduction had gone through, they wouldn't be a problem. Untamed BCX requirements wouldn't have been increased so much.

But because daily reductions didn't happen, we are stuck with the tournament daily. This must-skip quest forces us into buying cards from all splinters if we never want to risk having to complete it or waiting for a new daily. Don't get me wrong though, I think that's okay because it encourages playing all cards - including the infamous death splinter.

The other major change is Untamed's BCX requirements. Because devs realized daily quest rewards give out so much value, Untamed asks clients for more money in return. Unfortunately, it's only fair.

I'm okay with a gremlin blaster nerf, but I really dislike when somebody from the maverick group complains about these changes when they were the ones responsible after speaking out against daily rewards reduction.

Interesting ...

I for one always claimed too much rewards are being given out. I think where I differ with most is its the top of the league that needs adjustment. 20 Free cards a day is too much.

There's no way the game can sustain introducing cards this quickly and not make others obsolete. So far the devs have be doing an amazing job at introducing new cards while allowing older ones to still have value but doing such will become harder and harder with each new edition of cards (and new reward cards) that get introduced.

It's not hard to reach silver/gold. Some people (like me) can farm it out easily, with minimal actual investment. Diamond and champion on the other hand require you to spend a lot.

Understood, but like all games most players in the game will be those who don't spend allot or spend a little here and there. Those such players are the ones who should be pandered to and kept happy so they stick around spending here and there, buying cards from those players who heavily invested in the game.

The ones who spent thousands are already invested and are likely not going anywhere. Their spoils will be the game mooning and their card values increasing exponentially due to the amount of happy lower level players who continue to enter the game.

I generally disagree pandering casual players is good practice. First and foremost, because in this case, it creates a way to farm the game, possibly making it unsustainable.

Second but still very important, merely pandering is an awful way to make players stay. By not evolving, they will lose interest, because steemmonsters is a competitive game by nature.

Splinterlands is not attractive like "Windows Solitaire", because it is fun to win, to win more, and play wisely. It takes effort to improve. This is the user experience provided. Pandering does the opposite. It will drive players away from a game like this.

I generally disagree pandering casual players is good practice.

Just because someone has a low cost deck it doesn't mean their casual players.

First and foremost, because in this case, it creates a way to farm the game, possibly making it unsustainable.

That's a legit concern and its mostly because multi accounting is encouraged or was at one point encouraged heavily. Find a way to make it one account per person and the above becomes much less of a problem. But lets not kid ourselves ..... farming and abuse happens with higher level decks as well.

Splinterlands is not attractive like "Windows Solitaire", because it is fun to win, to win more, and play wisely.

I disagree, players play for all sorts of reasons and Splinterlands being fun to play is 100% one of those reasons.

Second but still very important, merely pandering is an awful way to make players stay. By not evolving, they will lose interest, because steemmonsters is a competitive game by nature.

Lots of successful games ponder to their players. Poker gives deposit bonuses .... Online casinos the same .... Live casinos .... Sites that host games such as Rummy 500 and .... Sports Betting ect. Giving preferred treatment or Pandering doesn't mean not evolving.

This is why we will always disagree on everything related to steemmonsters.

Just kidding.

I like reading opposite opinions and different lines of thinking than my own. In the end we all want the same thing.... have an !BEER.

Yes, I totally don't mind it! We're different kind of gamers, that's all. I am a traditional gamer, you are a gambler. The two are very different, but there's nothing wrong with either. But I just can't see splinterlands as a gambling game.

Interesting discussion. I think for the moment, the reward system worked out pretty well. Over time the whole game will change massively, I suspect. What we have now might be replaced by something else.

For the moment, I agree. I would not agree before untamed, though.
