Summoner's Week: Lily Shieldpaw
Introduction
She's a dragon summoner that is very tricky to use but with a lot of power behind her cute innocent look.
I did a lot of games with her before when she was first introduced and didn't know a lot of the interactions because the ability she gives to her monsters may be contradictory to some of the abilities in the game. Even so, it didn't stop me from experimenting until I get to the point that I was able to fully utilize her.
Now, I may not be able to tell everything in this short article but some future games may shed light to what I was saying. If not, I can promise in the future to revisit this summoner in a more detailed manner. For now, let this be a quick introduction to our not so dragon-like dragon summoner, Lily Shieldpaw.
Lily Shieldpaw is a really good summoner. Her abilities are tricky to new players since it does a different effect when all your monsters have it.
To make it easier to understand how Lily's ability works, since all of your monsters cannot be targetted by attacks unless in 1st position due to Camouflage ability, this creates a pseudo-Taunt monster on the 1st position, that is the only monster that can be attacked. That's the basic idea for it.
+1 Health: [Stat Modifier] [Negative Status] All friendly monsters has their Max Health increased by 1.
Camouflage: [Defense] This monster cannot be targetted by attacks. This monster can still be damaged by effects of abilities.
Triage: [Support] At the start of this monster's turn, restore the friendly monster's health, that is not on 1st position, by 1/3 of its max health. This ability will prioritize the monster with most damage to its health.
Pros
- Strongest ability in the game. There is no shadow of a doubt that Taunt is the strongest ability in the game and a summoner that can recreate that effect to any monster is strong. It gives you a huge advantage and counters a lot of strategies within Splinterlands.
- Cheap to Rent. You can rent a level 2 already for less than 3 DEC per day. For a legendary summoner, that's pretty cheap and can get you to a good plae in terms of monster levels.
- Lots of complementing monsters. Since you can make a pseudo-Taunt monster, you can add your best Shield or Void monster as your tank and your opponents will be forced to deal with it. There's also other interesting combos you can discover with Lily Shieldpaw using both her abilities. I will not say it in this article but, what do you think will happen if you combine Taunt ability, an ability that forces your enemies to attack that monster, and Camouflage ability, an ability that does not allow other monsters to attack it?
Cons
- Abilities are tricky to use for newer players. This is also the reason why I think not a lot of people plays this summoner despite how strong she is. I personally don't play her because my strats does not fit with Lily Shieldpaw's playstyle but a lot of my strategies would probably not work if my opponents have this summoner as their summoner.
- Expensive to Buy.While $10 may not be expensive to some, it still is to me. For that price, I can get 2-3 max level commons but that will only get me 1 level 1 Lily Shieldpaw. The trade off is not worth and I'd rather rent instead, in my opinion.
- Unavailable to some rules of combat.Since he has 6 mana cost and a legendary summoner, there's a few rules of combat that disables the use of this summoner.
Noxious Fumes |
All monsters on the board are given the poisoned status at the start of the battle. Poisoned monsters take 2 damage at the start of every round.: This is something I know a lot did not expect. The reason for this is because you can have your main tank Cleansed off their poison and then have the back restored the poison damage through Lily Shieldpaw's Triage ability.
Ferocity |
All monsters do double damage to opponent's monster that has Taunt ability: Since Lily Shieldpaw creates a pseudo-Taunt monster and not a real monster with Taunt, the double damage does not apply to your monster in 1st position but it applies to any Taunt monsters your opponent has.
Silenced Summoners |
During this battle, all summoner abilities are disabled: Lily Shieldpaw's 6 mana cost is very high for a summoner that has no effect. Any other summoner would be better for the extra mana cost. |
Aimless |
All monsters on the board gains the Scattershot ability that changes the targetting mechanics of monsters with Range and Magic damage to "Random opponent.": Scattershot ability always take priority over target modifying abilities. Whatever the monster has, if they have Scattershot ability, they would attack a random target. Since it's random, it's not targetting any monster and that means it would bypass Camouflage and Taunt. Your monsters with Camouflage can be hit by attacks if your opponents have Scattershot ability. |
|
Up to Eleven |
All monsters on the board gains the Amplify ability that increases the damage of Thorns, Magic Reflect and Return Fire by 1: Only the targetting part is prohibited by Camouflage. Any indirect damage like Blast, Thorns, Magic Reflect and Return Fire can inflict damage to these monsters. |
|
Healed Out |
All healing effects and abilities are disabled during this battle.: This is something I know a lot did not expect. The reason for this is because you can have your main tank Cleansed off their poison and then have the back restored the poison damage through Lily Shieldpaw's Triage ability. |
Uriel the Purifier |
Since you are creating a pseudo-Tank, someone with good stats is always a good choice. Not only Uriel the Purifier has high health, he also has Heal ability to sustain from any damage he would get.
Iziar |
You can place Iziar anywhere at the back and have his Taunt ability work. Not only Lily Shieldpaw will be able to use her Triage to restore Iziar's health, Iziar can also attack due to his magic damage.
Mycelic Slipspawn |
Mycelic Slipspawn is basically the same with Iziar. The main difference is that Iziar is a soulbound rewards and can only be obtained with Rewards chests. This makes Iziar harder to obtain and use. Mycelic Slipspawn is a cheaper version of that which is available on the market. |
This team is defensively focused on Uriel The Purifier. The idea is simple. If the opponents can get pass through Uriel the Purifier, they win - "IF" they can pass is the question.
Lineup
Lily Shieldpaw
Strong summoner with a flexible compatibility.
Uriel the Purifier
Strong tank for the Life Splinter.
Meriput Magician
Support monster with Tank Heal for further sustain for Uriel the Purifier.
Adelade Brightwing
Support monster with Repair to restore Uriel the Purifier's armor.
Venari Crystalsmith
Same for Meriput Magician but with extra 2 range damage instead of magic damage.
Scavo Hireling
Another Repair monster for more support.
It's a one-sided win for me. Since the opponent cannot kill Uriel the Purifier, it also halted Quora Towershead's Bloodlust. Then, I just have to wait until Uriel the Purifier kills all of the opponents one by one.
Lily Shieldpaw is really interesting. It's interesting enough to make me want to purchase at least a level 1 to use in case I needed a quick strategy. Since Lily Shieldpaw is a Dragon summoner, I can combine her with any elements giving me advantage at all times.
There are a lot more than this little cute pet. I am expecting more interesting combinations with this summoner in the future when more abilities are introduced.
