Tips and Tricks (Abilities) - Trample and Camouflage Fun Interaction

Hello everyone and I really want to share a battle I had today against @neoxian with you guys. I thought it was very instructive and I learned some new concepts about both Trample and Camouflage ability.

Let's start with a quick reminder of what those abilities actually do.

  • Trample: When a Monster with Trample hits and kills its target, it will perform another attack on the next Monster on the enemy Team.

  • Camouflage: This Monster cannot be targeted for attacks unless it's in the first position.

The Battle

The link to the match is here, and it is a pretty common battle with a Super Sneak rule set, which means that every melee monster will have the Sneak ability. That allows all melee creatures to attack even the ones that usually only do so in the first position. Undead Rexx is a card that I like very much, and he has very high damage, so I choose him as one of my damage dealers for this one.

Now is where it gets interesting, after Rexx kills his Dark Ha'on I was expecting him to perform another attack because of Trample.

That did not happen, and after I thought about it for a second it made a lot of sense. Trample always performs the second attack on the next creature, but if you're killing the last creature...there's simply NOTHING NEXT. Ok, that's not incredibly enough, but Trample had another little surprise to show me this match.

After the two monsters in the back of my opponent were already dead, the next target for my Rexx was the Phantom Soldier because he needed to ignore the Magi Necrosi that had Camouflage. After Rexx kills the Phantom Soldier I wasn't expecting anything else to happen.

But Rexx actually attacked Magi Necrosi in spite of Camouflage. Rexx didn't really care, he went for it!

So I thought that was a very nice interaction between the Trample and Camouflage abilities. Although Camouflage monsters shouldn't be allowed to be targeted when not in the first position, Trample activated and the Camouflage monster was the next one in line.

To be honest in this specific case one of the abilities would have to work over the other, and Trample was the winner between the two.

Is this even Useful to know?

We can debate that for eternity, but it is something that you can always have in the back of your mind and If Neoxian had played Magi Necrosi in his third position instead of his 4th that would have saved the little mage. It is definitely something that you can use and people can use against you in specific matches with specific rule sets.

Anyway, it was a very shocking and interesting interaction and I wanted to share that with you guys. Hopefully that was not boring and I added some value to you.

Thanks for Reading!

Really interesting to see the Trample interaction with camouflage.

What's really insane that you're up against and winning against Champion opponents! That was so cool and intense to watch!

Trying my best bro. I'm able to consistently get from Bronze to high Diamond with rentals now. Not much of a profit in terms of DEC itself, but I never lose DEC in the process. So pretty much I take the chests from quests as my main profit and always get a little bit extra DEC.

Next step is finding a way to keep my power to start a season already on the high ranks and try the Champ League once again. Haven't found the path to that one yet.

With high rental prices and the decrease in DEC reward pool, I's pretty tough to make decent profits in term of DEC but it case you pull an EPIC/Legendary card, it's all worth I believe.

try the Champ League once again.

Good luck on your quest to champion :D I'll be spectating your matches as it's really entertaining watching High Elo battles!

Spot on as always. You can feel the reward pool decrease and play accordingly.

This battle breakdown has taught me a bit, that even 1 card being in a less than best position is a battle-losing mistake.

I also think it is really cool that we play against different people. Hive is the most social place on the net :-)

Oh man, that is 100% accurate and I'm glad you got that from my battle. One position wrong and sometimes the whole structure can fall apart very quickly.

Thank you for the validation. Sometimes I see something and think I understand it only to find later that I missed the point lol

That's a super interesting battle with the Trample. I knew that killing the last card doesn't proc Trample, but was not expecting it to hit the Camo card. I wonder if that was intended....

Hahaha, If I had to guess I'd say probably not intended, but I liked it a lot. I think that there must be some more of these rare interactions that exist and we don't even know about it. That's a little bit of the beauty of Splinterlands for me.
