This was something that came up in the recent Town Hall. Aren’t you super curious about what this thing called Electroneum is? I got so curious I could only sleep at night, so I did a bit of research.

First of all, what exactly is Electroneum?

It seems to be a super-fast, eco-friendly, ultra-low-cost Layer 1 chain. If it’s Layer 1, that means it’s not a Layer 2 running on Ethereum, but on the same level as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), right? That sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it!?

Could this be one of those cases where if you secure some coins now and just sit on them, the price might skyrocket 📈!?

That said, Electroneum apparently has a relatively low market cap and isn’t that large in scale. I wonder if its collaboration with Splinterlands could cause the price to jump all at once? Not sure.

Looking into it further, it seems to be a blockchain that started in 2017 for digital payment systems, aiming to enable people without bank accounts to make payments using smartphones.

I personally got into crypto through so-called BCGs (Blockchain Games), buying NFTs with ETH to play. But if I had been more interested in digital payments, I might have gotten into Electroneum too.

As expected, the use case itself is different.

In my image, BTC is like digital gold—you buy it, hold it, and the price goes up.

That kind of thing.

On the other hand, ETH feels like something used to buy and sell goods on the web—like NFTs, which were hugely popular for a while. I personally used a ton of it to buy NFTs in My Crypto Heroes. 🤣

And this time, Electroneum feels more like something for digital payments—kind of similar to PayPay or Apple Pay.

It seems convenient, so why hasn’t it become popular? Maybe because in the U.S. credit card payments dominate, and in Japan cashless services like PayPay have already spread?

In countries like the U.S., where credit cards are standard, or Japan, where most people have bank accounts, it does feel like it wouldn’t take off. The advantage of being able to pay without a bank account is less meaningful there.

However, during the big Axie boom, it’s said that people in the Philippines could earn 2–3 times their regular salaries. Many players didn’t even have bank accounts, and some made money as managers converting tokens into cash.

If combined with people without bank accounts like that, could it multiply in value like AXS did? Hard to say. Maybe it’s meaningless if there aren’t enough places where it can actually be used?

先日の Tawn Hall で話題にあったやつ。electroneum ってやつが何なのかすごく気になりません？私は気になって気になって夜しか寝れなくなってしまったので少し調べてみました。

まずは electroneum というのは何なのか？ってことなんですけども。

超高速、環境にやさしく超低コストなレイヤー1のチェーンらしいです。レイヤー1ってことは Ethereum 上で稼働するレイヤー2ではなく、 Bitcoin（以下BTC） や Ethereum（以下ETH） と同じレベルのチェーンなの？凄いんじゃないの！？

これはもしかして今のうちにコインを確保して気絶しておけば爆上げ📈する可能性も！？

そんな electroneum ですが、実は時価総額は低くそれほど規模は大きくないらしいです。Splinterlands とコラボすることで一気に価格が上がるとかあるかな？どうなんだろう？

いろいろ調べてみると、2017年に始まったデジタル決済システム向けのチェーンで銀行口座を持っていない人でもスマートフォンを使って決済できるようにしているようです。

私は ETH を使って NFT を購入して遊ぶ、いわゆるBCG（Block Chain Game）から暗号資産を触りだしたのですが、もしデジタル決済に興味があれば electroneum にも触っていたかもしれませんね。

これはワンチャンあるか！？気になったので 教えてちゃっぴー！ してきました。

やっぱりそもそも用途が違うんですね。

私のイメージでは BTC は デジタルゴールド 買って保管しておけば値段が上がって

「寝てるだけで 朝起きたらお金が増えている毎日🤗」ってやつですね。

それに対して ETH はWeb上の商品を売買するために使用するイメージ。そう、一時期大人気だった NFT の売買のためのものって感じ。
私も My Crypto Heroes の NFT を買うためにめっちゃいっぱい使いました。🤣

そして今回の electroneum はデジタル決済用って感じですね。PayPay や Apple Pay に近い感じがします。

便利そうなのに何で流行らないんですかね？やっぱり米国だとクレジットカード決済ばかりらしいし、日本だと PayPay 等のキャッシュレスサービスが増えたからなんですかね？

そもそも、カード社会の米国やみんな銀行口座を持っている日本では流行らないような気はします。銀行口座無しで決済できる electroneum のメリットも薄いですよね。

しかし、あの Axie が大ブームだったころはフィリピンでは会社で働いた給料の２～３倍のお金が稼げたと言います。銀行口座を持っていないプレイヤーも多く、トークンを換金するマネージャー業で稼ぐ人も多かったという話。

そんな銀行口座を持ってない人と組み合わさったら AXS のように何倍にもなるかもしれない？どうなんだろう、使える場所がどれだけあるかよくわからないからあんまり意味が無い？

うーん、もうちょっと詳しく調べる必要があるな。データが少なくて手を出すのは怖いなぁ。皆さんも知らないものに手を出す場合はお気をつけて！
