Splinterlands Art Contest Week 214: Queen of Crows

Here is my entry for this week's Splinterlands Art Contest found HERE...

I saw someone enter a Queen of Crows a few weeks back, and thought, "I'd like to draw a queen of crows." But I couldn't find her in the Splinterlands Wiki. So, I'm pretty sure this is actually a game card.

So, uh... here she is. She's got some back story and lore that you can probably ask someone else about...

I don't have a timelapse video like I usually create, so here are the steps involved in creating. I use Clip Studio Paint Pro on a Surface Pro 4.

Here is a quick sketch using the "Designer Pencil tool set to a width of about 40. So it's more like drawing with charcoal...

Then I just slather in some quick paint color on a separate layer.

After this I use the "Colorize" feature in Clip Studio Paint. This just spreads out the paint using the reference layer (pencil in this case) as a guide. I've only tried this a few times using a pencil sketch, usually I'll do it with a proper ink line-art drawing, but it turned out pretty good this time. I think it only works with mostly-back tones.

Then I use a Smooth Watercolor Brush to even out the rough areas. Especially where those stripes are left on her face from the rough shading lines.

Then it's just a matter of cleaning the overall image. I mostly used the Oil Paint Flat and Gouche brushes.. With a little bit of airbrushing in shades and highlights.

Ta-dah! Done. Ca-Caw! Ca-Caw!
