Boss Fights Come to... Splinterlands

avatar

If you remember the talks from the Splinterlands town halls from way back, "boss fights" was a theme that came up every once in a while.

First from Aggroed, probably, and later on as a question in QAs from time to time.

Now, the land expansion will have occupied plots that will be inhabited by wild monsters that can be attacked to get some type of reward(s) if you win (it will be p2e). We will see if these will be challenging missions like attempting to kill a boss or easier ones that can be accomplished (i.e. farmed) more often. Or if it'll be a combination of the two.

In the meantime, boss fights will come into the Splinterlands ecosystem, but not from the Splinterlands team.

A new boss-fight game is in the presale phase. It uses the NFTs from Splinterlands and you are the hero that leads them in the battle against a boss of your choosing.

The bosses are increasingly powerful from the left to right, but also the level limit on your cards increases.

There is the public test server and I only tried the top boss, because most of the cards I would use are maxed, and the other bosses have lower limits.

You can use 2 summoners (their level is irrelevant), and up to 7 monsters. The rules of the battle are slightly different than on Splinterlands, but you will catch on to them.

It takes many fights and many players to kill such a boss. Stamina is what keeps someone from fighting the boss non-stop, without earning or buying stamina potions. I don't know the rate of recovery for it.

You can see from the screenshot above that I won a minor stamina potion and some FORGE for taking the boss 60 hit points. There is also a leaderboard, thus the points received.

FORGE is one of the in-game currencies of Splinterforge, along with Electrum.

In the presale, they sell CRATEs, which are packs with 5 cards each. They represent items that the hero can equip to improve its stats.

Full details about the game can be read in this post:

Are you going to add this game to your goal? 😉

I don't think so. Maybe a mini/micro goal.

Like you said, I may just pass on this opportunity to stay focused.

I'm fighting with myself to stay focused next year too. I may not be as focused as this year.

Gottcha! :) But if it doesn't take much time, maybe I'll give it a try for real, not on the test server.

$3/pack and Splinterlands style combining. That’s a lot of faith to ask for a game that’s yet another layer down.

HIVE -> Splinterlands -> this game.

$ -> $$$$$ -> $$$(?)

I agree. The risk is higher. If I buy into the presale, it'll be a couple of packs. One can play for free, as far as I can see. It takes a huge initial investment to level up your hero seriously.

Sprinterland is very interesting game. I like to play this game and spend my time enjoyable and also earn some money for my daily expenses.

I saw some info about the Splinterforge game but I haven't had time to check things out. From what I see, I think it allows you to use your Splinterlands assets and that byself makes it a huge plus.

That's what I'm thinking too. I tested it in a few games without any modifications to the hero, then I opened all the free packs and runes that came on the test server and tried to boost my hero as much as possible and see the difference. While there are some advantages (and more as the hero boosts grow), I think one can easily play with the hero without any boosts, if the gameplay remains like this.

Especially if you have a strong deck in Splinterlands, you can manage with a weak hero. That's my first impression.

Their presentation post says January 2nd is the launch day. Not sure if anything changed since they published that post about half a month ago.

You can use the test server (I linked it in the post) to get used to the gameplay in the meantime.

Thanks for checking out our game. I am wondering if you also opened the bags and equipped some of your equipment sockets with gems or runes. Bags won't go on sale till the game launches. Mainly because they can only be bought with FORGE and 100% of bag sales will be burnt. I don't know when you played but we just pushed an update. The bosses will get stronger or weaker depending on how long it takes to beat him. Also there will be random abilities for bosses as well as a new rule set each time you go to fight a boss. This is to prevent finding a OP team and spamming it on the boss. We are well invested in SL and have been around the game for a couple years. The co-founders of the game being myself (Rarelyhere in discord) and Rareraptor learned a lot from what SL did and have strived to make SF a fun experience first and formost. Also to give more use to SL cards. This was all done without any outside backing. The P2E aspect for us is just a bonus and not the main goal. You may want to check out the pre-sale special air drop. here is a link.https://peakd.com/hive-147526/@unitmaster/splinterforgeio-nartors-ring-exclusive-pre-sale-airdrop

Thanks for providing additional details! I tested the game a few days ago. There were no random rulesets at the time, but I saw new things added from one day to the other, so I realized this was a work in progress. I like the updates you've brought to the gameplay that you described above.

Also, about your question. Initially, I played without any enhancements to the hero, then I opened all bags and imbued the best equipment I had with runes or gems and equipped the hero. There were some advantages in doing that, the stronger the hero (not necessarily in stats, but maybe that too, but rather in team/game buffs - like that rune or gem that adds extra mana cap), the better, but otherwise the team can be pretty strong without the hero if you have a large collection.

I have a question for you. Are there any additional rewards dropped when killing the boss, or they are distributed after each fight like it is now? If there are any additional rewards, they should be distributed among everyone who participated in fighting him, based on the contribution, but that might be quite intensive to calculate maybe.

There is a leaderboard for each boss. You likely noticed that you earned points in the fight result. Those points are for the leaderboard and where you place when the boss dies determines what you get. The test site set up rewards a lot and we are reviewing the distribution currently. I am sure we will be making changes from what we used for testing purposes. Just haven't finalized what they will be.

Yes, I noticed the leaderboard. Ok, that makes sense to distribute leaderboard rewards when the boss dies.

Need to learn more about this! Not sure if I'd be able to spend much. Splinterlands is already a handful 😵‍💫 !PIZZA

If you don't put emphasis on developing your hero and you go straight to the fight results, it's not time-consuming at all.
