Don't Listen to Matt! :) WHEN You Claim Land Matters.

(Edited)

So... we have Land 0.5! I played with it on the mavericks test server before it launched, and I knew what to expect.

I was curious if it was going to be a rush to claim land right after launch, but looks like more land owners are in expectation than not, including myself.

There was some initial claiming, but not a rush.

We are currently at region 15 out of 150, tract 5 in region 14, and plot 60 in tract 4 of region 14.

Still in the first territory, Pristine Northwest.

Now, during the town hall, there were many things said about land. I'm going to focus in this post on the relevance of the location.

Matt said the location shouldn't matter as much, except if you claim plots. Then, it might be a good idea to claim them together, rather than scattered throughout the map for easier management, especially when transportation will be included in the land expansion in one form or another.

Matt said the type of terrain doesn't matter as much. It is more important the rarity of the plot. I don't disagree that the rarity could be more important than the type of terrain.

But from previous talks about land, the type of terrain determines what are the splinters that are best paired to it. Thus, what summoners and monsters could be staked for the best boost in productivity. We don't know these associations yet.

Do you have a preference on what summoners and monsters you would use for land? Then, the land type should be suitable for their splinter.

There are the totems too. Their benefits are yet undisclosed. It has been hinted that some may boost productivity also in correlation to a splinter or a terrain type. Does that matter when choosing the land type? In this case, it may be easier. We would sell the totems we don't need and buy the ones we need. Although there isn't much of a market for totems right now, but it will pick up after the use case is added.

But with older, rarer, possibly gold foil cards that you don't use in combat but you'd use on land, that's probably not as easy to do.

There is of course the fact that land claims can be traded and land deeds not, for now. Anyone interested in potentially selling their land in the short term should keep it as land claims. I'm not.

My thinking at the moment is to wait. At least until we have the in-depth details of the map at the beginning of the year. Hopefully, by that time, the team will share the exact correlation between land types and splinters. Which splinters perform best where.

I claimed my measly 1 single land in a rush. Now I'm thinking I just lost some SPS reward because of that.

No, you didn't. SPS rewards are paid for land deeds too.

I think it will be as usual roulette, but it's worth the wait. I, too, am waiting with my PLOT).

Unfortunately, at this point, this is what it is: a roulette. Pretty disappointed by how land continues to be handled.

I wonder what the price differentials will be. Right now land claim is one price, and if the the land turned out to be common, the price might be much cheaper?

Yes. After revealing (which they'll add in February-March from how the wind blows), the common land plots will be much cheaper. At the same time, something like an overflowing magical/occupied plot will have a huge price.

Is it worth it to buy lands at the current price right now?

If all you want is a common plot, no.

If you aim for a very rare plot, it will likely be much cheaper to buy now while their rarity isn't known.

How do you view the prospect of Land?

Development is slow and details are scarce and almost nothing is set in stone.

That being said, it will be one of my Hive goals next year. Let's hope I'll have something to focus on, and not just smoke.

If you want to have some, now it's time to decide if you want to get it before it is revealed and the rarity and land category of plots are known or after. After, common plots will be cheaper, but rarer and magical/occupied plots will likely be more expensive.

what could be the benefits of those rarer magical plots?

If I remember well on magical plots you get a rare resource needed to mint spells.

Rarity determines the productivity of the plot. Alongside other factors, like totems and the cards you have staked on it.

Occupied plots have monsters on them controlled by the game, and you fight them to get rewards, from the little details we have so far.

Depends. To me, land is worth a lot, and growing the more use cases are added. Of course, it will depend on rarity and land categories.

I wonder if they will put those old cards that aren't as good in battles as part of the land stuff. It just seems like there is a decent amount of unknown about land even after all this time. The rarity does look like it will annoy people though.

That's something known already. No details, but there will be staking of cards on buildings. And older cards, GF, will have better bonuses.

The rarity does look like it will annoy people though.

Rarity for plots was something known. There is some annoyance about new potions for improving the chances to reveal better rarity and land category (magical/occupied) plots.

Yes and the economics of it.

I believe the economics of it is still very blurry, as many things are about land so far.

That explains why it remains a puzzle to me. 😅

I sense this will be something important to pay attention to for those of us who are investing in the game and not playing.
Will we be able to buy land and rent it like cards?

You already can. Check the other items on the Splinterlands market for land plots. Or on Hive-Engine - PLOT.
