An Open Letter to the GLS and SPL Communities

I have been a part of the Splinterlands community since January 2022 and in that time have come to love the game and the community.

I am not new to prominent roles in gaming communities, but I am new to crypto. The intersection of asset ownership, gaming, financial trading and social camaraderie is unique amongst my experiences and creates an environment that checks the box for a lot of my favorite hobbies.

This ecosystem is one of promise and opportunity and it is built around a group of players, collectors and investors that have weathered storms together and come out stronger.

I have done some good things and made some good decisions along the way, but I have also made some bad decisions.

Last week I made a decision to execute on a trade that ended up being harmful to the GLS community that I love and helped to build.

I clearly made the trade expecting it to be a good one for me personally, but it was not my intention or expectation that it would harm the community.

As always, impact matters regardless of the intent and I want to take this opportunity to issue a formal apology to everyone affected, including those associated with me that feel like my actions are not representative of the type of person they want representing them in any way.

Actions speak louder than words.

I am starting the unstaking process and will send 5,000 $GLMSPA (GLG Packs) to the GLS.DAO account as soon as they are transferrable.

I sincerely apologize for the harm I have done to the community and am looking forward to the hard work of earning back the trust of those who think less of me because of my actions in these recent days.

You're a good person. As far as I am concerned, you did nothing wrong. There was no abuse of information asymmetry here. You're being forced to take the blame when the team, which created the low liquidity environment in the first place, avoids blame.

Wow. That is putting your money where your mouth is in a major way. It's a stellar move to make such an honest attempt to work in a first class manner-this is a big deal. It will be very easy to get behind and support you again going forward with such an action.

It's not fun being upset with people in here that have done so much good for the community. You're a go-getter and have ideals for the game, but this time you made a mistake. We are human and mistakes can be made.

Now hopefully this gives everyone a chance to get back on the same page of pulling the same way to see this platform become a success. Thanks for the heavy introspection and coming to such a sage conclusion and a major action to back up these words.

The community may be divided about whether the trade was ethical or not, but you've clearly stepped up and offered to take full accountability to try to heal the community.

Much respect for this. Know you have supporters.

"Actions speak louder than words"

I'm proud of you @genepoolchlrn8r.

I realize there's been a lot said on this issue, but at the end of the day @gank summed it up best:

Saying you're going to run a marathon is very different than actually running one.

You said you were sorry about how this activity affected the community, and now you've demonstrated it. To give away your profit when the team clearly said they would NOT ask for such a thing shows you truly do care about the community.

Not too many people would give back $25,000 worth of packs when they don't have to.

I've said it publicly and to your directly, I think you are a great guy for the community because you do care. I don't believe for one second that you spend the time you do for anything other than to do your part to help both games succeed. Whether right or wrong on any topic, I see your passion and drive.

I also think good people make bad choices, no one is perfect. It took you some time to understand that this was a bad choice, but in the end you listened to the community, the devs, and most importantly to yourself. YOU made this decision, and for that you have earned my respect.

I think you've been a terrific person for the communities of both SPL and GLX in the past, and will continue to be in the future. Events like this challenge someone's character, and I feel you answered that challenge well.

This community may take awhile to recognize how these events in totality will unfold, but I think a few months from now we will all see that we are far better off for having gone through it.

Finally I said a few days ago that I was losing confidence in the project. Your action today goes a long way to restoring my confidence, and I look forward to going on this journey in crypto gaming with you and everyone in both ecosystems together!

If I ever commit any crimes that would land me in jail I really hope you are the Judge or on the jury. Why arent you asking why he didnt bring the exploit to the team and have them put in very simple guardrails. They literally did it in a matter of days so its not like it was some huge effort. Meanwhile the thing he did took planning, premeditation I think is what they call it. You will have to forgive me Ive only ever played games for a living <3

Hewitt, I would hope I was either your judge or on the jury too. I see many of your comments for many years and believe you are an awesome person. I feel that whatever you would be accused of, you either had a misunderstanding or truly didn't do it.

Either way... I would try to look at it through your eyes, that's the minimum I would do because you've earned my respect over time as well!

See right there, I cant help but love you. You and Goldmatters are literally 2 of the most positive people ive ever seen in my life.

I just worry we are really letting someone off the hook for something that would be criminal in a more regulated sector... Like is this really the person to be community leader and also putting out new proposals every 10 mins? I honestly dont know but I would hope that you would look through his eyes and see the intent. If the intent was to bring the exploit to the teams attention that clearly wasnt the easiest path. Its not like they dont answer his DMs lol. They arent exactly my DMs ya know.

I just dont want this easily forgiven because we are such a lovey dovey community

first :)

I feel that everyone earns their credibility, its never given. Its ok to be skeptical of anyone. And everyone has their own opinions and require their own thresholds to earn trust.

I think the concern about anything bad happening is misplaced though. In fact if you think about it, the community collectively showed it is more powerful than any leader or even the devs themselves in this situation.

We have a LOT of very smart and well-meaning players that really look out for each other. This is a very powerful dynamic that should not be under-estimated.

While I hated to see the division and negativity caused by this whole event, I can also see the bright side. Think of all the players that spent their time and energy to "do something to protect the game".

And to your final point, while I might be considered soft or on the lovey dovey side of things, there are many that certainly are not. I have no doubt that everyone will remember this and its impact will be felt for a very long time. ps... that's not a bad thing either!

Honestly Gene if it wasn't you, it would have been someone else. The exploit needed a fix. So while I'm upset it happened, I'm not really upset by the person that did it, as it would have just been the next whale to come along and notice it. I do appreciate your apology though, and do trust that you are wanting the best for the whole community. Thank you for making amends

This isnt the first time you have done something thats harmed the community, you hyped up glx at the start when it was .28 cents and had to have others temper expectations. The argument could be made that Splex is now the reason we have 1 dec listing fees because of the million repricings it was doing a day. Now you manipulate the price of GLX to make 4x and think 25k worth of packs is a good enough punishment? Its not like the computer slipped and you fell on it making the trades. You knew exactly what you were doing and how it would work out or you wouldnt have done it at all. This is not the behavior of a community leader IMO

you always made my spidey sense tingle and now I know why

Gene I've had numerous interactions with you. As a minnow, you did not need to be so kind with me, but you were.

Your actions have always spoke louder than your words. As has your willingness to share information, even at your own detriment.

You are a great member of this community and I thank you for your integrity in this matter.

We all supposedly make mistakes (might have done the same if seen the opportunity) how we recover from them is the important part to me. I see this as humble, sincere and direct.

Hey mate, good on ya for trying to make things right. Personally, I feel that the GLS team is as much responsible for this incident as you might be.

From what I gathered, they have been made aware of this issue and what you did forced their hand to implement a fix. What you did was a pump, but instead of dumping, you went and invested that amount into the ecosystem by buying packs which I take as a positive. The gripe I have about this situation is that if the "Diamond Hands" were not that desperate to make a buck and sell GLX down, you would have been hail a hero for pumping GLX to an ATH.

I've been out of the loop and off discord for a bit - working my ass off to finish paying off my debts...

So I don't know what happened... but you're a cool dude, intelligent and have learned how to make some serious $$$

Giving 5k packs back... is bananas and kudos to you!

Also, if I remember... you hyped GLS from like .02->.28 or so... but you also warned a lot of people about it at those elevated prices...

Gank is always gonna bitch about shit - he's a [redacted] and likes to run his mouth... so take that with a grain of salt
