# Had better cards... did way worse - Splinter Stats Season 44 Report Card
@aussieninja
In season 43 (see last report card here) I noticed that I could essentially predict the outcome of my match up based entirely on the summoners used. I found that almost every time I came up against Yodin Zaku I lost.... so I thought I would rent that summoner for this season.
You can see that I played 35 games with him... and did not win the majority of the time.
I had totally forgotten that I had built a deck or two for each splinter specifically around my maxed out summoners. Water is very magic heavy, Fire is melee, Earth is ranged, Life is really just winning by attrition and Death and Dragon are total wild cards.
My current Fire card collection just doesn't really suit Yodin... so, ah, I'm not sure what I'm going to do next season.

For the first time in a long time, I couldn't break out of the Diamond leagues... I wasn't even close if we're being honest. I just struggled from the start to the end of last season. I'm probably being silly, but it honestly feels like my deck is getting too old to be competitive.

Last season I had a couple of rulesets in the 70s... not so much in this disasterous season.
I honestly do think that when I play has a huge impact on the stats. I think I have more success in the mornings... but also if I start playing earlier in the season I do terribly... but if I wait a few days to get started (while everyone else at my power level has surged forward) then I do better... but then I potentially run out of time at the end of the season.
For season 44 I started playing a lot as soon as the season started.

Nothing really exciting happening with the rewards cards... which is to be expected considering I probably got half as many as I did two seasons ago.
It's hard not to feel like Splinterlands is a pay to win game.... there's definitely strategy involved, of course, but I'm super sure that the more expensive your collection is the better you'll do overall.
Super happy that renting cards seems somewhat affordable. I honestly hadn't looked into it before.

First time I've been stuck in Diamond, for at least 6 months. Shorter season.
When the stats are far removed from your estimate, I find that's where the juiciest lessons can be learned.
You got stuck as well? That's super interesting!
I completely agree... except I haven't quite landed on what those lessons are yet. I have found that every time I do one of these reports and/or read other people's reports I (at least feel like) get slightly better and creating each deck.
Harder season all around I think. Only 32 players in Champ 1. February part 2 is missing a few days.
I think there's definitely a power creep. The sheer variety of tactics does make the older card seem less competitive, though I feel if you had an equivalent CP of newer cards you'd be missing the older ones.
It's a pitty your deck doesn't suit Yodin. How long have you got him rented for?
It's definitely an interesting dynamic... the newer cards might be more versatile and possibly (maybe) more powerful... but a person starting today with the same CP level as me wouldn't literally be able to purchase some of the cards that I have... I can't think of many other games like that... where older and newer players have different advantages.
I only rented Yodin for 7 days, and it dropped off yesterday. It's great that you can rent these sorts of cards to trial before making any substantial purchases. I really like him as a summoner but I need to do some work in upgrading a few key cards before I do. Luckily the rental costs seem pretty reasonable to me... $4ish dollars to rent for the week as opposed to $325 to buy outright.
