SPS Governance Proposal - Adjust Survival Format SPS Rewards Distribution

avatar
(Edited)

This proposal was submitted by @clayboyn for review and approved to be ran as a DAO sponsored proposal by all members of the SPS DAO Foundation.

Due to the urgency of this situation, the SPS DAO Foundation board has agreed to expedite this proposal past the draft phase.

The purpose of this proposal is to create a more fair rewards structure that incentivizes human participation in manual play while creating more robust automated brackets, ultimately enhancing player engagement and game balance.

Background and Rationale

The current Survival format rewards distribution has been less than ideal. Currently only 7% of rewards are going towards the manual format and players feel that the way Survival mode functions creates a dynamic where automated play soaks up all of the match liquidity and rewards, which further compounds the lack of participation or interest in the manual game mode.

By allocating a set amount of the rewards for manual play, we should be able to get a more clear picture of which brackets in manual play people are more interested in joining while we also expand the matchmaking in the automated brackets to be more viable for higher tier automated accounts that are already suffering from a lack of match liquidity.

Proposal Details

If approved, the following changes will be implemented at the start of the next possible season:

  • Rewards Distribution Adjustment: Allocate 30% of total SPS rewards in the Survival format to manual play brackets.
  • Allocate 70% of total SPS rewards to automated play brackets.
This split aims to provide stronger incentives for human players to engage in manual modes without greatly diminishing the participation in automated brackets.

Automated Brackets Expansion:

  • Remove limitations on the matchmaking differentials in automated brackets in Diamond level and above.
  • This expansion will ensure higher-rated players can find matches more readily, reducing queue times and preventing "opponent droughts" at the top tiers of the automated game mode.

It's the team's responsibility to manage the strength and availability of liquidity bots in a manner they feel is best to make each bracket fun and engaging while ensuring match liquidity at all levels of play.

No changes are proposed to other formats, total reward pools, or entry mechanisms at this time. Implementation will be handled by the Splinterlands development team, with monitoring for balance in the initial weeks post-change.

Expected Benefits

  • Fairer Distribution: By weighting rewards toward manual play, human participants are better incentivized, promoting skill-based competition and community interaction.
  • Improved Matchmaking: Expanded differentials in automated brackets will lead to more fluid gameplay, higher player satisfaction, and potentially increased overall number of played matches.
  • Long-Term Ecosystem Health: This encourages a mix of play styles, reducing reliance on automation and supporting token utility through user engagement and more dynamic reward incentives.

OK, now we're talking. I like the 70/30 split. It is a good start and I approve this proposal!

I like compromise, I'm proud of all the people that worked from both sides of this to come up with a workable solution!

I think it should be 50/50 to encourage manual participation even though I play bots in 3 out of my 4 accounts in Survival...
I am going to vote for the pre-proposal though...

Wish more people botting would be like you, cheers.

Manual playing should be more beneficial than botting... Says a bot user :-D But this a good start, and a compromise. I'm with @seattlea , though, 50/50 would be fair to both multi-account legacy users that have a huge stake in the game and can't do it all by hand, as well as those who put in the effort and time to play manually.

Thanks for always being open to suggestions and improvements!

As someone who’s botting a survival account, I’d rather see a 50/50 split, with even more rewards going to manual players. That being said, anything that encourages manual play has my support.

I’m voting YES, wholeheartedly.

should be more like 70/30 to manual players and not 30/70. With the way things have changed with card availability(being able to be used in different modes even if beaten in survival mode), this is just another wild bot exploit. just make as many botting accounts as one can with their collection power and soak up any rewards they can get out of it. Should be rewarded based on actual participation...botting is not participation.

I haven't manually played Survival more than twice because the RShares were terrible.

I might actually play some with change - so that's a good thing :)

I'm a manual player and love anything that brings more motivation and benefits for player playing players. Nice job!

I play Survival manually and I love the idea in principle. However, the problem is that that there are few players and you end up getting paired vs insane liquidity bots. I would rather play weaker XBOT teams than maxed out liquidity bots.

never ever play liquidity bots, disable them in settings

Why not 70 manual play and 30 bot? That doesn't promote manual play at all

I think the answer to that one is pretty obvious. You can't give that big of a share to such a small number battles/players. It would kill the entire mode if they did that.

No it would encourage more players to play manually rather than farm with bots

Okay. I don't think that's true, but it doesn't matter. I don't want to argue about it.

As someone who is playing manually in a botted bracket XI I would support a 50/50 split and switch to a manual only bracket. However the diamond bracket needs to be adjusted to allow cards of any level just like it is in the automated one XI.
the way it is now or the compromise is disrespectful to the actual players of the game if you call this a game.

Here's a crazy thought. If you battle match using owned/rented/delegated power rather than something that gives wealthy power and bots an advantage more manual players will reach the higher levels and not be disheartened by the BS and stop playing.

Create plutocacies get problems linked to plutocracies - not a great shock there.

Imho SURVIVAL mode should replace WILD. But I know it's extreme and off topic.

About the proposal: I'm ok in allocating a fixed (and generous) amount (%) of rewards to manual play.. but then It should be allowed to play several brackets.. I would enjoy playing manual, but having a bot idle bot for playing in my off days/weeks is essential.

As I have seen others say in the comments, I would prefer 50/50, but 30% is at least an improvement. Let's see how it plays out once this is implemented.

I haven't managed to see any answers from anyone who knows stuff, but why is this proposal 30/70 instead of 50/50 like it is in mordern vs wild formats?
