"The majority of the DEC available on the markets comes from burning reward cards"

The title of this post is a quote from this comment by @yabapmatt. It is true, but people are doing it wrong!

What you guys don't understand is that even minotaurs are useful all the way up to gold league. Sure, not at the beginning of the season when all of your opponents have maxed decks for the league you're in, but later on.

One of the accounts I am currently playing has level 3 summoners. Today I got it to gold 1! I might be able to get diamond 3 with it in the last day of the season. level 3 summoners!!!

Lately I've also reached gold 3 using Camila Sungazer and a Chain Golem. -1 to melee, shield and a monster with heals or silence are a glorious low-level combination!

So why wouldn't an account using a crappy card like a level 4 Delwyn Dragonscale along with base-value DEC cards be worth playing? The safety of using cards priced at around 15 dec means you'll be able to sell them out for as much DEC as you've spent getting them anyway!

Minotaurs are actually pretty good as tanks in low-mana battles when coupled with Daria Dragonscale. They are generally useful in melee mayhem too, just like hobgoblin in this case.

Other financially safe cards include phantom soldiers when you use them as tanks. Vampires are not bad either if you know what place of your composition you should use them. They are safe because since they are already very close to their base DEC value once you are ready to swap them out of your rotation.

But most importantly, try holding for the long term. This doesn't mean not selling any DEC, at least selling much smaller amounts. Splinterlands is still going in the right direction as far as longevity goes, and even a few mistakes were made, devs are learning from them. So if you hold more for now, you'll be able to sell it for more later on.

If you don't want to let the cards just sit there, you can set them up for rent, offer to delegate them to people who support you on steemit or even set up a @herons-unlimited account to keep making money off what you'd otherwise sell abruptly.

Herons-unlimited is an intermediary staking service designed to make your splinterlands investment profits last for longer. Join us at: https://discordapp.com/invite/a4Me9bQ

Agreed, lots don't see the value in such cards but I do. The Rusty Android is a great card for anyone playing on a budget or farming with lower level accounts.

I think a low priced legendary or two might be more worthwhile since a player using them won't have to level up their summoners, but yeah Rusty it's an undervalued option.

Always forget about renting cards. Have to check out this Heron thing, too..

You could play a heron account or you could delegate to it. Also, renting is very important!

Why did they ruin BETA's by making the follow-up release to them, playable without any previous cards?

Why are all my games standard? Do the rules start to change again as I go up in league?

Betas are still very powerful and they're easier to mix into a good team. Betas will also give a % dec bonus in a few months, just like alphas. Untamed are more expensive to level up. Novice matches are always standard and you always have access to all splinterse. Rules will begin to change in bronze, and as you rank up into new leagues, less and less splinters will be available for each match. When you reach gold, there will always be two special rules for every match.

Wow. So much has changed all over the blockchain while I was away.

Thanks for the info :)

I also play account with only Lv3 and Lv4 summoners and I reach Gold II or even Gold I sometimes. Weak cards can give you profit, and if you leveled them up and rented them you'll earn even more (most of the cards I borrow are level 4 or 5.)

This is now not so true, specially if we're renting summoners. I'm changing tactics.
