Splinterlands art contest | Djinn Inferni
How are you friends? Today I am very excited to submit my entry for the @Splinterlands contest, this time I wanted to do something quite detailed, this piece gave me a lot of headaches, but I feel like it was worth it, I really liked it.
My card this week is Djinn Inferni, a card that I definitely liked a lot but I had to adapt it to my style to be able to work better with it.
This time I made Djinn Inferni female version, with light skin and some pieces of rock covering the body, coming out of the skin, I added luminosity between the rocks to make it look like lava inside her, I kept her yellow eyes and a similar color palette, I came up with this idea of making the rocks come out of the skin and it seemed super incredible to me, in addition to forming a kind of clothing with the same rocks surrounding the body, normally I don't dare to choose this type of creature because it's hard for me represent them in a way that I consider spectacular, this time I dared and I feel a little more confident to do it again, I hope you like it.
For the sketch at the beginning I did not have such a clear idea of what I was looking for, I really improvised in the process of making the sketch, after several failed attempts I managed to adapt this character to the way I wanted, I chose a color palette with tones warm at first very saturated, I thought it would be a good idea, I was shaping the body using different shades of orange, then I started blending to better define the shape, for the hair I used a fairly dark blue.
I added some light reflections on the ends of the hair with a very soft orange, with a blue I started to paint the rocks on the body, in a new layer I started to shape the rocks creating some separations and playing with lighter blue tones to create volume, I painted the horns and then the eyes, making them look a strong yellow, I also painted this kind of chunks that come out of the shoulders, I added some light between the rocks to make it look a bit more like Lava, then I wanted to paint this kind of lava in front that would cover the legs I think this part was too difficult since I didn't get the lava texture that I wanted, I added a background of a kind of rocky space.
Then I started to apply the last details, a bit of light in some areas and a color adjustment since I was not completely convinced that everything looked so orange, despite making a color adjustment I still didn't like the contrast between the character and the the bottom.
So after several attempts I solved the problem by merge all the layers of the skin into one and adjusting only the color in the character without affecting the brightness of the skin, the rocks, etc., put a slightly less saturated hue giving it a tint faint blue making it look darker and better highlighting the lava lines that run through the body.
This was really a challenge, I hope you liked it.
