Good evening friends, today I want to share again my entry to the @Splinterlands art contest, this time choosing the DJINN RENOVA card, a card that has many elements that fascinate me, the colors, the character as is very beautiful, I think it is one of my aesthetically favorite cards so far.

For my entry this week I wanted to make a portrait since I feel much more comfortable working on what I know the most, portraits allow me to give much more detail and do a little more impressive work, but it is important not to lose the essence of the character, that’s why I would say that it is a very difficult job to do.

That's why I took quite similar colors and I kept the gold accessories, since they represent it very well and they are also very beautiful, the truth is that I loved this drawing since I made the sketch and I wanted to do something very bright and clean, I hope you like it like.

Proceso/Process

I made the sketch with an idea in mind and it was that I wanted to make a nice portrait, bright and striking, I chose a fairly neutral skin color palette but added a pink light to make a lighting similar to that of the original card, I began to apply the colors with a soft brush and in a new layer I joined more shades to give more shape to the face, for the hair use a light coppery brown tone as the base, continue detailing the face until have a fairly smooth skin, all this process is done only with the diffuse brush, I do this when I want a fairly clean finish and with a more realistic texture, for the eyes I used gray tones and I liked the makeup that DJINN has so I decided to do it but in a more exaggerated way, drawing a rather striking eyeliner.

The face gave me a lot of work because I wanted to make it quite realistic, I continued detailing the features until I was happy with the results and then I began to blend the color of the torso and neck, now I had to give life to the hair, so I started choosing light orange tones and some browns to make shadows and highlights.
I continued with the hands, applying base tones to give it shape and then start blending them in a new layer, I painted the accessories and nails with yellow and in a new layer I started to give them details to give them that “gold” look.

The clothes were an element that was not going to be seen much, but in the same way I painted the part of the bust with a pale pink, added more color to the face giving a little more blush to her cheeks and intensified the eyeliner using the same green tone but with the brush set to the “Overlay” blending mode to highlighting the makeup more, at this point I was already worrying about the background, I put a black base color and started working on it.

Despite having a sketch and a pretty clear idea of what I wanted, I wasn't sure about the background color, I began to experiment with many colors, until I was convinced by the idea of using a kind of gradient using blues and purples, then I started to paint the details in green, which is a kind of smoke that this card has, doing it with many curves to make it look quite similar, I liked the idea of applying a contrast of light with purple and pink to this smoke and thus give it more meaning to the light that bounces off the face, finally apply a color adjustment to intensify some parts of the drawing and also apply a lot of light sparkles on the face.

Thank you so much @castleberry 💕

I'm glad you liked it, I have a question for weeks that I wanted to tell you!

My question is if I could participate in the contest with another type of art sometime, like makeup or cosplay? 👀

Yes, you can. As long as you follow the guidelines in the weekly art contest post, there is a list of accepted artforms. I don't think we have had many, if any, cosplay or makeup entries, but i am pretty sure those are on the list of accepted art applications for the contest.
