Splinterlands Art Contest - Week 264 - Firecaller

Hey, all. Today I have finished yet another piece for the Splinterlands Art Contest. While last week's work has an uplifting tone about it and remains one of a kind special to me, this week's work has somewhat of a unique dark vibe to it that dig so much. So, without further ado, let's jump right into its process:

The Process

It started off as one of the normal sketches and flat coloring drawings that I usually do, but I've noticed that since I'm getting faster and faster in sketching, I also spend more time perfecting and fine-tuning them as well.

The "FIRE" Caller

Since he's the fire caller, I decided to have him conjure some sort of fireball in his hands and draw him a fire in his hands. And if fire is anything, it's a source of light and with lights, comes glows and shades for me :D
So, I decided to make that the focus of this piece...

After finishing the shades and glows on him (those that were created by the fire in his hands) I still felt like something was missing and the whole drawing felt so monotone, so I decided to take stuff to another level and add more detail - while not trying to overcrowd the whole piece.

The Result

And that's how it turned out. I darkened the area around him to give more focus to the subject (him) and the fireball but also added some embers created from the fireball in his hands. Adding some blur to the embers also helped reinforce the feeling that the firecaller is the subject, and I really liked it. Hope you enjoyed this week's art as much as I did :)
Cheers~~
