Splinterlands Art Contest - Week 275 - Gloridax Magus

Good day, folks - or night, wherever you are. I wish you all a wonderful start to the weekend, meanwhile, I present you this week's entry for the Splinterlands Art Contest. This time around, I decided to draw Gloridax Magus, and boy, oh boy, does this fella's forehead give off trypophobia vibes. (don't google that if you don't know what it is)

The Process

The Background

I've recently noticed that backgrounds and thinking about what and how to make them have been taking up more and more of my time and thought lately. As you can see, I did start with a simple yellow background with its different shades to go well with her blonde hair, but on second sight, it all started looking a bit monotone.

Gradient

It started looking better when I introduced a little bit of gradient toward a purplish color (inspired by the edges of her crystal balls), but still, something felt amiss.

The Magic

That's when I decided to give the painting some "Magic", and by that, I mean some glitter, magical light, and such. It worked pretty well, and it looks less... "empty".

I don't think there's a formula to making a perfect background - I'm not sure, there might even be one - but I think going with guts has worked the best for me so far. I might update you on that in a future post, but that's what I think right now...

The Result

This is how she ended up looking in the end. I finished up her face and added some glitters all around her and her magic balls)
I hope you enjoyed this week's entry...
Please do let me know how I can improve my art in the comments. Until next time, cheers~~
