# A new experiment! - Splinter Stats Ranked Rewards Season 31 Report Card

@aussieninja

Hi everyone!

I tried an experiment for Season 31.

The basis of the experiment was this...

Is it easier to get a higher ranking if I wait until the last couple of days and storm up the ladder?

In Splinterlands, when you get a decent winning streak, the percentage bonuses really start to stack up, so potentially you could get much higher with less games by waiting.

Let's see how this experiment went...

Match Report

Performance

Stat#Wild#Modern
RankGold #932Gold #171
Rating2563 - Gold I2662 - Gold I
Rating High26192678
Ratio (Win/Loss)1.40 (21/15)1.13 (26/23)
Longest Streak55

It went bad.
It went really bad.

For reference, last season I got 3060 - Diamond III in Modern.

The problem was that there are still very decent decks and players in Gold all season long. I couldn't overpower anyone with card levels and there were lots and lots of accounts in both Wild and Modern that could stop me.

Each day, I would play once in Wild and once in Modern, and just stop as soon as I lost a game... and try again the next day. I barely got anywhere, which was fine, because I wanted to still be fairly low with just 2 days to go to start my winning streak run.

Unfortunately, in those last two days I couldn't get any momentum... so I was left with a low rank, and not many loot chests. I got 20 whereas the seasons before I got 54, 47 & 66.

A worthwhile experiment, I think you need to check yourself every now and then to see if there are better ways to do something, but ultimately it was not successful for me. I'm already higher than both these rankings in the current season in the Wild league with 6 days to go.

83 cards versus 242 last season. Yeah, ouch!

My strategy for this season is to just try and get 5 Daily Focus Chests each 24 hours.. and hopefully that helps me get about 50 Season Loot chests for the season. I'm already at 33 with 6 days to go so this seems really achievable. I know the Daily Focus Loot Chests aren't relative to the Season Loot Chests, ie, 5 focus chests doesn't equal 5 season chests, but it's an achievable goal that I can keep pushing each season.

I just noticed that the "Land Rewards" row has been removed from this report. I'm still getting Land Rewards and expect to up until Land 1.5 goes live... and then I'm actually planning to set a couple of plots to farm SPS so I think maybe this row should continue @kiokizz?

Unless maybe there is going to be a new section of this report for Land once it drops... which would honestly be super cool.

I think I'm really happy with my strategy to aim for 5 Daily Focus chests every day. When you lose a lot, you do start to question whether there are better uses of your time (obviously there is... but are they as fun?) but this small goal will provide a little daily victory in itself.

It looks like Land 1.5 is so close, so I'm really excited to see how that will go.

I am a little worried about Rebellion being released this calendar year and what that might do the overall card inflation of the game... but I also understand that the team needs to generate revenue to keep building this super fun game for us all. Guess we'll just have to see how it all pans out.. hope to see you on the battlefield!

The first iteration of land won't offer us the chance to stake rented cards on plots; so that won't be a source of new demand. Guessing it massively shrinks supply of rentable cards. I've been reflecting recently on how Yaba designs the tokenomics.
If the coding doesn't keep up with his vision, that distorts the market.
A guy expecting land very very soon, two months ago; sold a few plots to buy cards to stake on his plots has watched those cards get next to nothing on the rental market since; while the guy who bought those plots, has enjoyed a juicy SPS airdrop every day.

There's so many factors here.

I think the rental market will shrink dramatically. Anecdotally, I'll determined which cards I'm adding to which plots. I'm keeping my playing collection intact (although I will play with less gold cards) but everything nominated is currently on the rental market, so I will pull those out a couple of days before Land 1.5 lands.

I'm also wondering if people will just... play the game less. If they've got some of their best cards working on their lands, will they play less or not at all... in which case will their extra cards be sold off or put in the rental market? I honestly have no idea what Land will do to the playing base... but I have to imagine it'll have some effect.

If the rental market supply shrinks enough to raise rental card prices... would people start to consider buying cards or packs specifically to add to the rental market? I have no idea.. and it'll be dependent on the point above.

I also wonder if people will decide that the available SPS and future Research tokens aren't worth the cost of land and cards and just decline to participate... and may also find it's easier to win games and tournaments with less cards to compete with?

To your story, that's rough... hopefully he finds it worth it in the end... I imagine more cards will be purchased when Land 1.5 does drop, so in the long term maybe he got cards for cheaper? Who knows...

Interesting experment. I now switch between modern and wild depending when I lose to much.
The Carlton Blue's started really well against Lions last night in the AFL preliminary final. I only watched the second quarter on television, Wow it a super fast game nowerdays. It was if the Blue's just could not maintain the super high level intensity they started with.

Hahaha, I literally started doing that too for this season... and because of that I'm way higher in Wild than Modern... it's been a really long time since that happened.

I'm not sure why it's been an easier run in Wild for me... I'm guessing it's because Bots and Battle Helpers are now no longer welcome in Modern and so really powerful players are playing in Gold (where I am) to get their knowledge and skills back, so it may take a season or two for those players to find and stay back in the Champion leagues.

I'm so happy with the Blues season... I think they dropped as low as 15th on the ladder in the first half of the season and obviously really excited for them to get to the Prelims. Hopefully they can build on this next season, they've got some great players.

I think your right wild seems a bit easier than modern at the moment.
And it weird seeing Michael Voss all dressed in blue coaching cartlon on the side lines after all the glory years at the Lions

Seems like the experiment didn't actually work as really expected. But there is no harm in trying out

In this way we are seeing that the prices have come down a lot and people are not even renting out their cards but the good news is that when their land gameplay comes, this game will be back again. It will be very popular and people will love to play it. The good thing is that the prices of things are going very low right now and it is a very good time to shop for the upcoming season.

Yeah, I truly don't know how things will go. One thing I've noticed in the blockchain world is that people often seem to chase the shiniest, newest thing because being very early to something is often the best way for them to make money... but if there is another crypto bull run then Splinterlands should be very well placed with an extremely built out game... but it won't be the newest thing... so who knows? I definitely don't.

It is true that we don't know what will happen in the future, but we should hope for the best, then the best will happen to us.

That's a good experiment and I feel that every Splinterlands player must see this. I thibk a lot of people are not just playing like before since the price of cards have reduced

Awesome rewards! I've tried something different this league and loving it: since I've rented my cards while on holidays, I've finished last season on gold league. So since I was collection season gold chests instead of the usual diamond chests, decided to try and maximize them, and refrained from going to diamond as soon as I could. Only entered diamond league today, already with 63 eos chests, and been collecting over 8 daily chests, even reached 15 one day. Probably miss on sps rewards, but hopefully it will compensate on the amount of cards! I'll wait until the eos to see if it's something to repeat! !BEER

Amazing!

How do you time when you go into diamond league? Would you just lose some battles to make sure you didn't progress that high... or did you click the button to say you'd stay in Gold... and then reverse it? It's a super interesting strategy, I'd love to know the technicalities of it...

I never lose battles on purpose! I just don't click the button to progress to Diamond when I reach the rating, and continue to play in gold; have no specific timing, just thought that 4 days before would be a good time to climb. Maybe better rewards inside chests, but daily chests dropped to half as soon as I progressed.

PS. Well played, I'll get you next time! ;) Cheers! !BEER

Hahaha, of all the battles I wanted to win today, that was definitely the one!!
I was so worried the entire time.

So, the reason I asked is because I thought if you don't click the button to progress to the next league then it would keep you in that league until the end of the season... so I was confused when you said he chose to rise up to Diamond with a few days left.

Does the button remain and you can click to progress whenever you like? I've literally never not progressed...

Exactly, the button always stays until you want to progress. You can go to 3k rating and still be playing gold. Seems a good strategy to stack more cards; will see how will I fare with the season chests, 69 so far. See you on the battlefield! 😉
