This Splinterlands report card is for the season that ended on the 29th of February 2024.... just moments before everything changed for the better. The change that went in after Season 42 was the Ranked Battle Rework which removed the league caps for cards (among other things) and instantly removed the Silver League grind for Modern for me forever! Whooooo!
For Season 42 however, I really wanted to get as high as I could in both leagues so that I didn't drop too low before starting my final march out of Silver. It was brutal, but I did not disappoint..... myself.

Here is my general rewards for Season 42...
My Win/Loss Ratio was not good at all... especially in Modern. I just lost so so much... my rise to Gold III was incredibly inefficient, but I pretty much played as many games as I could to get there. Super time consuming, but getting into Gold III meant that I only dropped to Silver II and so the grind wasn't as brutal.
You can see that I scraped into Champs III in Wild, lost my next game and stopped immediately... I couldn't risk bouncing out again hours before the end of the season.

One thing I haven't really been specifying in these reports is the difference between the different types of Loot Chests.
In Season 41 I specified that I received 67 EoS chests... and for this Season 42 I got 44 EoS chests... but the 44 chests were Champion Chests and the 67 were Diamond Chests...
The Champion chests take way more SP to earn...
This is all dictated by where you end up in the previous season - and just something I didn't realise until now. I've been counting the number of Loot Chests I've received each season without realizing just how much better (but harder to get) the Champion Chests are.
So these are my rewards in detail for Season 42:
The monetary value of last season's 67 Diamond chests was $8.70, with 326 cards... and while the monetary value is dramatically lower with the 44 Champion chests, getting 334 cards (10 gold versus 22 gold here) is obviously way better, even with fewer chests. For me, getting as high up the leagues as possible each season is super important.
Absolutely pumped with 334 cards!
I'm really starting to catch up to my peers with Soulbound reward cards:
Although, I still have a lot of ground to make up with Gladius cards:
One thing that is genuinely stressing me out is the lack of a Level 3 Iziar card:
It seems like Born Again (Resurrection) ruleset has Iziar plus two Resurrectors - and I haven't found a way to compete with that yet. It's just too strong.

Things are really exciting still. The new Rage card is very fun for those huge MANA battles, and I'm still trying to find my place in the leagues and become a lot more competitive. I've been absolutely terrible in the brawls now that I've jumped up to Tier 5 and I think it's knowledge rather than max level cards that I'm missing now... which is easily fixed... I just have to play and pay attention.

I am thinking of unstaking maybe half my sps and trying to up grade a few summoners. I hate the idea of lowering my stake and passive 15% plus return as it took so long to build it up to 2.5 k. But as I seem to find enough time to battle regularly and maybe higher rewards further up might make up for it. I suppose it's just finding the right balance. Do you have any thoughts in this area.

I honestly do like that idea.
The upgrading of summoners is really just something you have to do once, and then you can benefit from that forever. The loss of half of you 15% will hurt, but if it means you're winning more, then you'll be earning more SPS per battle... I have no idea what the ROI of such a move would be, but I have to imagine upgraded summoners would be better (and more fun) in the long run.

After the changes things get better and we see that now people are buying more of his stuff and the game is getting more interesting and the more the game is the more things will always have to be upgraded.
