I was under the impression that the vote was like the wrestling trope of the "Retirement Match" or "Loser Leaves Town Match", I was sort of surprised that this didn't end up happening... but then I realized it actually was just like the aftermath of such an event as the person ends up coming back anyway and we're all supposed to forget that such a stipulation existed in the first place.
