Hello, everyone. It’s been a while since I last shared a Splinterlands-inspired character on my blog. In this case, I was inspired by a charming character named Drifting Manatee, as you can see in the image below:

Saludos amigos. Hace un buen tiempo que no compartía en mi blog una figurita inspirada en splinterlands. En mi caso me inspiré en un personaje encantador llamado Drifting Manatee, tal como lo pueden ver en la imagen de abajo:

Well, inspired by this figurine, I made the one you see in the image below and on the cover. I invite you to join me in the creative process so you can see how I shaped it.

Pues bien, inspirado en esta figurita hice esta que ven en la imagen de abajo y en la imagen de portada. Los invito a acompañarme en el proceso creativo para que vean como la moldeé.

Step by Step

I basically used three materials for this piece:

• Modeling clay
• Wire
• Paint

The first thing I did was take this black modeling clay and shape it into a teardrop. I flattened the back and pressed down a little on the thickest part to create a flat surface for the head.

Los materiales que utilicé para esta pieza fueron básicamente tres:

• Plastilina
• Alambre
• Pintura

Lo primero que hice fue tomar esta plastilina de color negro la cual moldeé en forma de gota. La aplasté en la parte trasera y en el área más gruesa la presioné un poco, para tener una superficie plana para la cabeza.

On the lower part of the body, I made these little holes that you can see in the picture and molded a bit of modeling clay around the holes to create a sort of pleating effect.

In addition, I took two small pieces of modeling clay and shaped them into crescents. These are the manatee’s flippers.

En la parte inferior del cuerpo hice estos agujeritos que ven en la imagen y moldeé un poco de plastilina alrededor de los agujeros, para crear una especie de pliegues.

Además de esto, tomé dos trocitos de plastilina, los cuales moldeé en forma de medialuna. Estas son las aletas del Manatí.

The image below shows how I attached the fins to the body using wire and the adhesive properties of the modeling clay itself. I also made a sphere out of the same modeling clay and attached it to the body with wire.

En la imagen de abajo se aprecia cómo pegué las aletas en el cuerpo, usando alambre y la propiedad pegajosa de la misma plastilina. Además de esto hice una esfera de la misma plastilina y también la ajusté al cuerpo con alambre.

I also made two small holes in the face for the eyes, then I added the mouth by cutting out an opening and placing a pink tongue inside it. Next, I shaped what would become the manatee’s nose above the mouth. Finally, I drew a few lines to give the body that cut-out look it has.

En la cara hice dos agujeritos también, para los ojos, luego le coloqué la boca, haciendo una apertura, sobre la cual coloqué una lengua de color rosa. Luego moldeé lo que sería la nariz del Manatí, encima de esta boca. Lo último fue hacer unas cuantas líneas para darle al cuerpo esta apariencia cortada que tiene el cuerpo.

Well, once the body was ready, I took the paint I mentioned earlier—in this case, a white paint with a pearlescent or silvery finish. Using this paint, I applied a light coat using the dry-brushing technique, which brightened the surface of the body while highlighting the subtle cuts I had made along its length.

Bien, después de tener el cuerpo listo, tomé la pintura que dije que había usado, en este caso es una pintura blanca con estilo perlado o plateado. Con esta pintura le di una leve capa de pintura con la técnica de pintado en seco, lo que permitió aclarar la superficie del cuerpo, pero resaltando los leves cortes que le hice a lo largo del cuerpo.

And that’s how the figurine was completed. Below you can see a series of photos of the final result:
