Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Aim True!

Coming in with a new challenge! The Battle Mage Secrets is the new kid on the block with Splinterlands, they are aiming (no pun intended, this week), to create a more diverse set of posts for people to put out there each week, I do like the change. It changes up my format a little bit, which is good, but it tries me on a new level and gives me some new challenges to win!

First, let’s talk about this ruleset, Aim True, means everyone is going to be hitting, which works well with the slower speed trying to hit a faster speed or dodge and phase. However, your monsters are taking the hits just as well. So you need to look at shields and health, repair and healing, not to mention, having high health and shields, really does help!

The battle that we are examining for this one is a lower mana cap at 26 plus:
Aim True: Attacks always hit their target.
Up Close & Personal: Only Monsters with Melee attack may be used in battles.
Holy Protection: All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.

An interesting ruleset to say the least, only melee, and they will be hitting every time, but then the holy protection, that shield takes a little to get through.

Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Modern Gold League: (Link) however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.

First up, the Summoner:

This battle could only have fire, earth, and dragon summoners, I went with Helios on this one for a couple of reasons, I wanted that quicker speed, the level 3, along with using that conscript ability, which I will get to that in a little bit, but also, using the dragon for another card as well.

The front line was Djinn Chwala

Chwala is a good fit in this instance, decent shields and good health, decent damage and speed, but the thorns ability is what I was after on this one, so when they hit me, they get hit themselves, this will help take away those wonderful divine shields that they have up..

Next up is the Quora:

I love this Gladiator card, amazing, 2 melee, 2 magic, and self-heal, a great thing, I wanted here in this line up because she is considered melee, but she has the magic damage aspect, so in the second spot, she could be doing damage to their front spot at the same time, then bloodlust, when she kills something, she get’s stronger, a great thing!

The next card is a great card for the 0 mana cost:

I put this one in the third spot to help protect Quora for a turn or two from sneak attackers, that is all that it was here to do.

Last was another card to hopefully take away the shields:

Again, to help defend off those sneak attacks so that Quora can get powered up, but having thorns at least it will take away a divine shield and maybe do some damage.

So, my initial thoughts on this one is that I really wanted to get some ranged or magic damage into the pile since it can give me an advantage. Hence why I went with the Matriarch, but then having the thorns on the front and back can help do away with the divine shields and do some damage.

My strategy worked, even though they did have a good shot at me with taking away the melee damage and a really smart idea to put the guy up front that shatter’s shields, that hurt me, but ultimately I was able to come out ahead on this one because of the bloodlust and the magic damage of Quora.

Things to keep in mind with the Aim True ruleset:
• They will always hit you, have recovery mechanics in play, heal and repair
• Don’t worry so much about speed, since it will always hit
• Have retaliatory elements in play, thorns and retaliate.
• Don’t be afraid to put throwaway monsters in there just to keep others alive

I hope my first Battle Mage Secret helps you in your future fights in Splinterlands! This was a really good battle for me, and when you are watching a battle, you always need some Pizza! If you are looking for a great area of Positivity along with a great community, com join the Pizza Family!
