Coming in with the next challenge! The Battle Mage Secrets is the new kid on the block with Splinterlands, they are aiming to create a more diverse set of posts for people to put out there each week, I do like the change with this being the third week. It changes up my format a little bit, which is good, but it tries me on a new level and gives me some new challenges to win! Also a side note here, the art they are doing for these is amazing!

First, let’s talk about this ruleset, Extra Armor changes the dynamic of the fight a lot, every monster has armor, so how do you get around it, or through it, pierce and magic is ways to do that, or there is the shatter ability to take it out, all great strategies.

The battle that we are examining for this one is a mid/high-level mana cap at 48 plus:

Briar Patch: All Monsters have the Thorns Ability.
Armored Up: All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat.
Super Sneak: All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability.

An interesting ruleset to say the least, the extra armor is a nice touch on this one, but when you combine it with Thorns and Sneak, it means any melee is attacking the backline, but at the same time, they will take hits themselves, unless they have the Reflection Shield ability, the monster doesn’t take damage from thorns.
Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Silver Chaos Legion Only Fray: (Link however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.

First up, the Summoner:

I love this summoner, the boost to speed and giving everyone armor, it fits into so many lineups! The armor was a nice addition to the fight, stacking more, but I also needed to have a way to get around the extra armor, hence the speed.

The front line was the Wave Brood:

A couple of things on this one, the Wave brood attacks in the first spot, but also, I can use a heal on him as well. I wanted to direct the attack towards him, but I also did not want to take hits from thorns, hence the front line.

Next was Djinn Oshannus:

Many times, when I am running Water I use Oshannus up front because of the high health and the speed, which is great, but having Void, where it reduces magic attacks, along with Phase, which means that magic attacks can miss him, it creates a powerful tank. In this case, the off tank, knowing that the wave brood will die pretty quickly, but having that void there where people have a tendency to use magic attacks, means he will take less hits.

In the third spot spot Nerissa, that magic hit, but when Oshanus goes down, a good amount of health which means she will stick around for awhile, while doing a decent amount of damage.

The next card is one of the key’s in this fight.

Lowest health on the team, but the tank heal will help to keep those 3 front line cards into play longer.

Next up is a card to keep them directed at the front:

Good magic damage on this one, decent speed, but the resurrect ability means that my Wave Brood will come back, keeping that direction to the front, and hopefully, I will be able to heal through it.

The last card was for more damage than anything else:

Slower speed with 4 health, but with blast I am hitting that second spot, which is good, after the wave brood goes down, if they have a melee person he should be able to take a couple of hits.

So, my initial thoughts on this one, I wanted to keep damage focused in the front, hoping that I will be able to heal through a lot of it, thorns takes out a lot of the sneak attackers, so I wasn’t as concerned about that, but magic slipping around the armor, heals and void and phase to keep me out of troube.

My strategy worked, even though they had a lot of blast magic damage, the healing worked to get through the front of it, but the void in that second spot, kept me from taking damage, and then when that switched happened, I had Nerissa there with a good amount of health to stay alive, magic was the name of the game!

Things to keep in mind with the Armored Up ruleset:
• Lower health monsters can stick around longer, look out for good abilities
• Magic is great, ranged and it slips through most defenses
• Void Armor is a great ability for monsters with high armor, it goes down before health
• Void and Phase can become your friends, less magic damage too you
