Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Close Range!

Coming in with the next challenge! A shorter one with the Battle Mage Secrets being out and about, changed things up a little bit for me, but that is good, but it tries me on a new level and gives me some new challenges to win! We are coming in with something that makes archers excited, close range, this means that they can hit in the first spot.

First, let’s talk about this ruleset, close range, this means that you have a larger selection of people who can be in the tank, so that is a good thing, other than that it is not too much of a difference on this one.

The battle that we are examining for this one is a low-level mana cap at 18 plus:

Keep Your Distance: Monsters with Melee attack may not be used in battles.
Close Range: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles.

This is a nice ruleset together, you can’t use melee, but you can have a ranged monster in the first spot, which is very nice!
Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Silver, Chaos Legion on Brawl Fray: (Link however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.

First up, the Summoner:

I love this summoner and she works great with ranged attacks, giving a nice bonus to that damage is a good thing!

The front line was the Pelacor Conjurer:

I use this one a lot actually in the tank position, the 5 health is okay, but then having flight helps the other team miss, but then magic reflect will hit them back if they are using magic, since melee cannot be used in this fight, this becomes a great tank!

Next up is a card was to get some damage in and some survivability:

The one magic damage is nice on this one, but then the tank heal is here to help with that survivability for the Conjurer, then bloodlust incase she gets a kill.

Next was the Venari Crystalsmith:

I really do like this card, another tank heal to help out on the front, but then the two damage becomes three with Sloan, so yeah, a great addition to the pile!

Lastly,

Rounding out the end, knowing that they will have a slight chance of having sneak attack, I put in the Arbalest for the double attack at 3 damage each, at the end means a lot more damage throughout the fight.

So, my initial thoughts on this one, I know that damage will be focused on the front, so I put in the Conjurer, at only 2 mana, that is important for the low mana fights, something that should last for a little while, at least with the flying, something should miss, but then double heals should keep it around awhile. Then keeping the major damage in the back means I should be doing a lot of damage to them quickly.

My strategy worked, I did get lucky on this one, snipe took out Sola early on, and then one miss determined this fight, which was rough otherwise! Other than that the strategy did well.

Things to keep in mind with the Close Range ruleset:
• You have a lot more options to put people in different orders
• Having double attacks works great, especially if a monster is melee and ranged
• Still have the heals in there to keep your people alive longer
• Don’t be afraid to forget about this one, but remember there are interesting things as well
