Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Counterspell!

Coming in with the next challenge! The Battle Mage Secrets is out and about, changed things up a little bit for me, but that is good, but it tries me on a new level and gives me some new challenges to win! We are coming in hot with

First, let’s talk about this ruleset, counterspell, you have to be careful on your selections due to things getting hit with their own attacks!
The battle that we are examining for this one is a mid-level mana cap at 32 plus:
Healed Out: All Healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.
Counterspell: All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability.
Keep Your Distance: Monsters with Melee attack may not be used in battles.
This is not a nice ruleset together, you can’t use melee, since you have to have a ranged monster in that first spot, it can make things rough!
Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Gold Modern league: (Link however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.
First up, the Summoner:
I love this summoner, the boost to speed and giving everyone armor, it fits into so many lineups! The armor was a nice addition to the fight, but I was also looking at the speed as well.
The front line was the Djinn Oshannus:
Many times, when I am running Water I use Oshannus up front because of the high health and the speed, which is great, but having Void, where it reduces magic attacks, along with Phase, which means that magic attacks can miss him, it creates a powerful tank. In this case, with the counterspell, as long as the enemy doesn’t have amplify, he can do magic damage, missing the shields but then when it comes back he takes no damage due to the void, a nice trick.
A nice reward card in this spot, a secondary tank for me, but then I was also looking at the Rust ability, that reduces the armor of the enemy.
A nice reward card in this spot, two big things with this card, the cripple, which knocks the other team down, but then also life steal, by the time they get to this spot, he should have some health which will keep him in the fight longer for the next two cards.
This was an important card to the fight, the 3 damage is nice, but knowing that the enemy would be using ranged attacks, having that armor up can save a lot of damage. So the Swamp Spitter has the repair ability, so it will allow my tank to take one more hit, every round.
Lastly is a nice Chaos Legion card:
I have started using this card a lot, and it adds to my idea on this strategy as well, 4 speed, good health, good attack, a pretty solid addition.
So, my initial thoughts on this one, I know that damage will be targeted in the front, so having that armor and the repair will help with that, and then the speed of Oshannus I hope for some misses on this one. As a backup, I have Noa there, but he will be taking away shields, which can help my attacks do more damage. Lastly, using the Merdhampir’s life steal ability will give it more health, paired with a repair I should be able to survive for quite some time.
Everything worked as intended on this one! The enemy did not choose well, my taking the armor away hurt them bad, but then using magic to sneak around it, was unexpected, an easy win for me!
Things to keep in mind with the Counterspell ruleset:
• Don’t be afraid to use magic, just make sure you have void on your monsters
• Amplify is a great ability to have, if they due use magic, it hurts a lot more
• Still have the heals in there to keep your people alive longer
• Make sure to use a blend of melee and ranged, take things out of their hands with debuffs
