Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Going the Distance!

Coming back in this wee for another one of my Battle Mage Secrets, we are running the distance with this one, as far as the arrow flies! Yeah I know another bad pun, but I am a dad so I can get away with it, at least a little bit… It also brings a song by Cake to mind… Anyway, moving on to the challenge!

This drastically changes the match in Splinterlands, only having ranged monsters limits many possibilities, but you have to work through it, some abilities are better than most on this one, but you need all of your wiles to win these!

The battle that we are examining for this one is a lowish-level mana cap at 25 plus:

Going the Distance: Only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used in battles.
Aim True: Attacks always hit their target.
Armored Up: All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat.

The Aim True and the Armored Up change things, no matter the speed, you know that you will be hitting every time. So you want to make sure that you have more monsters in the lineup so that it takes longer for the other guy to take you out, and you continuing to do damage.
Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Gold Modern league: (Link however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.
The opening shot:

First up, the Summoner:

There were a couple of abilities I wanted in the death sphere, particularly a shatter and protect, the minus 1 to health would help as well.

The front line was the Venari Marksrat

Kind of a throwaway, luckily it has the Martyr ability, which will add +1 to all the stats of the second card, allowing that one to live longer, that was the key point for this fight for me.

I like this card for only 2 mana, a great little thing, in this case it might get a shot in, but with the buff to it, it should last hopefully a round on this one.

Next up:

The first part of the strategy comes into play on this one, add the speed to my group, so that I hit them before they hit me, additionally, having it in the 3rd spot with 5 health means it should stick around for a little bit.

Second part of the strategy, not much damage, but that shatter, will take out any shields that it hits, meaning, it could do a lot of damage if the enemy has a lot of shields on this one.

The next part of the strategy is up with the Ravenhood Warden:

The protect ability is the big part on this one, but with the 2 damage that is nice, adding in 2 extra armor to everyone in front of this one, means they should stick around just a little longer.

Lastly:

This is the damage card on this one, 3 damage means that they will go down quickly, but at the same time, the low health is not good, hence why they are in the back.

Initial thoughts on this fight was to try to do more damage to them then them to me, hence the speed from the supply runner. I also wanted to have a lot of monsters, so it takes longer to get through everyone on my side. Then having shatter on one of my guys will help take out those shields quickly, lastly, having the protect ability for more shields, since I know they will hit with the Aim True ability. I also have my heavy hitters farther in the back so that they can do the damage longer than the other guys.

Since they went fire, our summoners cancelled each other out, they added health, and I subtracted it. My setup worked great on this one! The front monsters did die, which was expected, but that extra shield kept them around for longer, than the weirding warrior stepped up with perfect timing for the second monster, taking away all 4 armor with the first shot. This was a great win for me!

Things to keep in mind with the Going the Distance ruleset:
• Close Range is a Great ability!
• Headwinds, another great ability to slow the other team down
• Make sure to set your monsters up correctly, usually lower damage toward the front
• Speed and snipe will help you out
